In the morning, LD goes to work. Radha was working from home for a few months until Charu was a little older. When he gets to the office, he calls the home and asks about Varun. "Sir, we don't know how to thank you. For the first time since he came here, he has actually slept through the night. Usually he wakes up three or four times during the night. But last night he just went to bed holding the teddy bear that you gave him and went off to sleep. Even now he is just holding the teddy bear."

He then calls Dadaji. This is an important decision and he would appreciate some guidance. Dadaji listens to him and finally says, "there is nothing more noble than to give a homeless child a home. This child is very vulnerable. His father is no more and his mother doesn't want him. He is the heir to a large inheritance and so people will try to exploit him throughout his life. By giving him a home, you have a chance to give him the values that will make him a responsible member of society. But you need to be careful that your noble intentions are not misconstrued as being opportunistic. Whatever you decide, we are with you. If you decide to give Varun a home, then he will always be welcome here as part of the family."

He will have to discuss this with Mr Raj Kumar but it will have to be a face to face conversation. Something as important as this cannot be done over the phone. Mr Raj Kumar was due back on Friday. The monthly board meeting would be held on that day. He wonders if he will get a chance to talk to him on that day. Now that he has made a decision, he is as eager as Radha to get Varun home.

When he gets home, he finds Radha in bed. "Just feeling a bit under the weather." "You take rest. I'll take care of Charu." "Wash up first." Charu doesn't have her usual smile for LD as he lifts her out of her crib. "Charu baby, it is now time to put into practice all our training." He mixes the formula for her and gives her the bottle. Charu sucks away and promptly throws up on LD's kurtha. "Charu baby, this is same side goal again." She throws up again. Now LD is worried.

"Radha, Charu is vomiting." "Check if she has a fever LD. I hope she hasn't picked up a bug from me." "No she doesn't feel hot." "Then I don't think we need to worry. Babies do vomit sometimes. Give her some grip water. We will see if that settles her. Otherwise we can take her to doctor aunty next door." "Charu baby, now you have to be a team player and drink the gripe water," says LD as he gives her the gripe water. He tickles her foot and she smiles back at him. "Charu baby, when I fell in love with your Mumma, I told your Dadi that I was prepared to travel 2,000 km to see her two centimetre smile. But to see your one centimetre smile, I will travel 3,000 km." Charu gurgles as if she understands.

LD kisses her forehead and puts her in the crib. "I think I'll have to do something for your Mumma now otherwise she may start getting jealous," he tells her in a loud whisper. "LD! What are you teaching my daughter?" "Nothing sweetheart. I'll bring you some of your herbal tea. What would you like with it, rusk or biscuits?" "Rusk," says Radha sulking a little.

By the time LD brings the tea and rusk, Radha is back to normal. LD settles himself on the side of the bed and drinks his regular chai. "I know what will make you okay. I'll be back." LD goes out whistling. He goes to the mithaiwal in the shopping complex near the colony. "Bhai, I need hot jelabies and rabri. My wife is sick and this is the best medicine for her. And if she doesn't eat it, I can always eat her share. "LD saab, you haven't changed one single bit in the last three years. I always keep the jelabi batter ready for you! Here - I'll put the jelabies in my hot pack so that they remain hot."

Whistling cheerfully, LD returns and offers Radha the jelabies and rabri. "LD are you sure you got these for me or for yourself?" "Well I was hoping you would share with me and if you couldn't finish your share, I would fulfil my husbandly role and help you! But in case you really don't want the jelabis, I'll give you my share of the vada pav," he says taking out another food container with a big grin on his face.

"LD, sometimes I do not know whether to hit you or hug you!" "I am always in favour of hugs!"

Those of you who can - please watch yesterday's episode of Saath Nibhana Saathiya. They have copied the part I wrote about a body being passed off as LD's body and Radha refusing to accept that the body is LD's even though the rest of the family thinks he is dead.

Ahem is supposedly dead and Gopi is refusing to accept that the body is Ahem's

Either their CV thinks like me or they are lifting my writing!
