Hi Guys,
First fo all let me thank all the people for contributing to the thread by sharing ideas, opinions and information from a range of varied sources...There is no need for apologies.
I appreciate all of it even if some opinions and thought dont exactly match mine...well if they did...what would be the point of a discussion board right?😃 . As a token of my appreciation, I try to show by pressing like on every message that is posted for most part...unless it is a conversation between very specific things between 2 people that I am not following...
Aamir Khans statements have ceratinly touched a nerve and offended the feelings of many people. I am at a place...where I fully support his right to express what he feels and the freedom to feel what he feels...I am not a very religious person and I am certainly familiar with communal issues in India and not in denial
However, after all said and done...Aamir's statements felt slanted, selectively exaggerating the issue to the point where he seemed to be condemning the entire nation...with no regard to the goodwill he has received from people of India...on all aspects...including his freedom of speech as an artist to openly criticize...the religious beliefs and practices of (specially) Hindus with a fervor that was missing for his critical review of practices of other religions.
I am glad for his clarifying statements and his declaration of being proud be an Indian. However, I do understand the feelings of the people he has offended by his original remarks, and I thought he would have had a better understanding of those being an artist, who generally have more ability to understand such things. I didnt follow Satyamev Jayate much but from what little I saw...it all seemed like an act...wasnt convincing at least to me...
Happy Gurupurab to all friends from the Sikh faith...ceratinly a community I hold in high esteem by staying by the nation they call their own, despite having been tested at times, due to some acts of a few in that community!!! Indian people do have the ability to accept pluarlity of faith and coexist...However, all of it works best when religious beliefs and practices of people from each faith remain peaceful.
