PART 54

Radha gasps as she saw the shoes. That is why the man looked familiar! He was Sumeet! One of the reflective strips on his right shoe had torn off while they were doing the data collection on Monday afternoon. Sumeet had something to do with this. He was the one who completed the formalities for LD. He was the one who had the body cremated. But why would he harm LD? She remembers LD telling her to be careful about Sumeet. LD must have noticed something that she herself did not. She calls for Ravi. "What was the last background check that LD was working on," she asks.

"I don't know. He was doing it himself. Normally this is done by the junior staff. So it had to be an important client. Sir kept his notes in the safe but I don't have the combination." Radha thanks him. She has the combination. She opens the safe. On the top of the pile of files is one marked Sumeet. Radha flips through the file. Sumeet has been lying. The story of him being kicked out of the home because he refused to marry the partner's daughter was untrue. He had been kicked out for embezzlement from his father's company and trying to put the blame on one of the long serving managers.

Radha is deep in thought. She needed to get close to Sumeet and find out about his role in the whole affair. She can't do this on her own. She will need some help. She calls Ravi. She tells him that she has identified the person who was talking to LD and he is one of their neighbours. "I need your help. But you cannot discuss this with anyone else, not even your wife," she says. "Sir has been good to me. I will do anything for him," says Ravi. "Okay. I am going to invite this guy for dinner tonight. You will have to search his flat while he is in my apartment," says Radha.

Radha goes home. She goes up to Sumeet's flat. He is at home and is surprised to see her. "What a pleasant surprise!" he says letting her in. "Just give me a minute," and heads towards the bedroom and comes back wearing a shirt over the vest that he had been wearing.

"I was just wondering if you would like to come home for dinner. The family has gone back and I am alone tonight," says Radha. "Of course, I would love to have dinner with you. But why don't you let me take you out," he says. "No. I'll cook. LD loved my cooking. I actually learnt to cook from his family," she smiles thinking of those memories. Sumeet smiles on the outside but thinking to himself that he has to remove LD's memories from Radha's mind quickly. "Okay. See you at eight. Can I bring anything?" asks Sumeet. "Only a big appetite," says Radha.

Radha goes down to her flat. Somehow she had felt a strong presence of LD in Sumeet's flat. She thinks she should be the one who searches Sumeet's flat. She has some mild sleeping pills prescribed by Dr Ansari during the time she was separated from LD. She can use those to knock out Sumeet. She cooks dinner and makes some juice. She slips a couple of pills into one of the glasses. "That should be enough," she thinks he wants him knocked out not dead. Ravi arrives. Radha shows him the nursery and tells him to hide there.

Sumeet rings the bell. He is very excited. He never expected Radha to move on so fast. After accepting Radha's invitation he had gone out to buy Radha a bouquet of white carnations. He had noticed that LD usually bought her red roses so he had to get her something different. He also bought her some perfume even though that was going a little too fast. But then he was a man in a hurry. He wants to erase any trace of LD from Radha starting from stopping her smelling of any perfume that he would have bought her.

Radha welcomes him in and offers him the juice and tells him to make himself comfortable while she puts the finishing touches. She has cooked all of LD's favourites. She is sure that Sumeet will like them too. Again, it is all about LD, Sumeet fumes. He has to do this carefully. He decides to sit on the two seater. That way he can persuade Radha to sit with him and who knows what might spark between them. After all, LD had been gone for a month now and Radha seemed to be a very passionate person.

PART 55

Before going shopping, Sumeet had gone to the locked room of his apartment and opened it. A sleeping but restrained LD was on the bed. He sets up his laptop and connects it to a speaker. Sumeet had withdrawn his sedation after Govind and Sudhakar had left his apartment. He wanted LD to see him building up a relationship with Radha. Sumeet wanted LD to squirm when he saw him touching and caressing Radha. Only then would LD understand what agony he went through. When Radha had turned up at his apartment unexpectedly, he had excused himself for a minute pretending to go and put on a shirt but actually going to open the bedroom door so that LD would be able to hear them. He slapped LD to wake him up. "You think I will not get Radha. I will bring her into my flat tonight and make her mine and you will not be able to do anything," he smirks.

Sumeet comes back to the present. "Radha seems to be taking forever," he thinks. He discretely checks to see that the Skype on his phone is turned on and starts chatting with Radha as she works. LD must hear them. LD tosses and turns on hearing Radha's voice but there is nothing that he can do.

In a short while, Sumeet is feeling woozy. He passes out. Radha calls Ravi. She tells him that there has been a change in plans. She tells him to keep an eye on Sumeet and she will search his flat. She has a better chance of finding any clues. Ravi is taken aback. "Are you sure. I am trained in searching. I would do it better than you." "And I am his wife. I know LD better than you do," she says.

Radha runs up to Sumeet's flat. She searches the hall and finds nothing. She doesn't want to check his bedroom. She hesitates - she has to do this for LD. She hears a voice in the other bedroom. "That is funny. Sumeet lives alone. Who is here?" she wonders. She opens the door slowly and sees LD. Radha is stunned and rushes towards him but LD shakes his head. He makes eye contact and then looks to a corner hoping she will follow his lead. Radha looks up to where LD is looking and sees a speaker. She can hear a voice on a speaker. It sounds like Ravi and it sounds as if he is trying to wake up Sumeet. Radha is shocked. Ravi was in this with Sumeet. And she had trusted him.

She frees LD. LD is too weak to stand by himself. Radha supports him. She needs to think and act quickly. She calls Ravi and says she couldn't find anything in Sumeet's apartment. "There is one room which is locked. I will have to come up and check if the keys are with Sumeet," she tells Ravi.

Ravi moves away from Sumeet. Radha should not see him trying to help Sumeet. Radha helps LD out of the apartment and takes him down in the lift to the ground floor. Fortunately, she has the keys to the car still in her handbag. She helps LD into the car and drives out of the colony. She pulls over and pulls out the GPS system in the car. She throws it into an empty auto parked outside the colony gate. She then calls Renuka aunty. She tells her that she has decided to take a break and is taking a train to Agra to spend some time with her Mama. "I have left in a hurry as I will miss the train. Could you please ask someone to lock up my apartment? I cannot bear to go back to the flat without LD being there." She hates lying to Renuka aunty but the conspiracy is so big that she needs to take these steps to keep LD safe. Sumeet is very wealthy and Ravi has a criminal mind. Together they make a dangerous team.

Radha pulls out the sim card from her phone. She starts driving to the airport. All the techniques that LD had taught her came in handy now. At the airport, she parks the car and looks for a wheelchair. She brings the wheelchair to the car and helps LD into it. She pushes the wheelchair to the airport building and asks for the first flight out to Delhi. There are three seats left but madam will have to hurry she is told. "Don't worry," she says. "We do not have any luggage. She buys the tickets, paying cash. She wants to avoid detection for as long as possible. They enter the airport and go through security and board the plane.

Ravi is waiting for Radha but there is no sign of her. Renuka arrives at the flat with the traffic commissioner. They had been in a meeting when Radha had called and so he had offered to go with her.

They see Ravi with a sleeping Sumeet. Ravi explains to the commissioner that Radha Madam suspected Sumeet had a role in LD's death and went to check his apartment. She was going to come back and check if there were other keys since there was a room that she could not open. But there is no sign of her. "Oh Radha called me and told me that she was going to Agra to see her uncle. She must have been heartbroken to find nothing in Sumeet's apartment. I am just going to lock up and go." Sumeet starts coming around. Ravi takes him out and is about to take him up to his apartment. He then remembers that the keys are with Radha. He will take Sumeet to his own home he decides.
