Chapter 11

BEEP BEEP! BEEP BEEP!

"Urgh! Pragya! Switch that damn thing off!"

Abhi muttered as he went to cover his ears with his pillow.

But the alarm continued to ring and he grudgingly threw the pillow away

"Pragya!"

She was not there. Where... OH!

He hit the snooze button.

He checked his phone. No reply yet.

Feeling annoyed he got out of the bed.

"Robin what is the point of having you when you can't even iron a shirt properly!"

Aaliyah heard Abhi blasting off Robin.

"Third time!"

"What?"

She turned to Bulbul.

"Aaliyah, Robin is getting scolded for the third time in a row now. First it was for the coffee! Then for picking the wrong shirt! Now for ironing the shirt! I am telling next it's going to be for breakfast! Want to bet? Wonder why Di is not telling anything!"

Aaliyah headed towards his room, followed by Bulbul.

"Bhai?"

"What?"

"Robin you just go. I will iron this."

Aaliyah waited till Robin leaves.

"Bhai what is wrong? And where is Bhabhi?"

"Nothing is wrong! It's just this Robin!" Abhi muttered annoyed.

"But Jiju where is Di?" Bulbul asked confused.

"She went with Aunty yesterday."

"But why?"

"How am I supposed to know! Why don't you go ask your Di!"

"What did you do this time?"

Aaliyah asked Abhi calmly.

"What? What is that supposed to mean? Do you mean to say that she went because I did something?"

"Offo Bhai! I didn't mean it like that! You are so annoyed right now I thought you two might have had a fight or something like that..."

"Well we didn't fight! And everything was fine! At least it was until she decided that she would just go with her Ma just like that! Aaliyah do you know she didn't even ask me once whether I would want to go with her. But that is okay. She wants to go see her Ma, I understand. But you know she didn't even reply to my messages. I mean how long it would take huh? Just few seconds! But no! That's also okay... She must have been tired but she could at least reply now right?"

Aaliyah and Bulbul shared a knowing glance and laughed.

"So my Jiju is missing my Di! So cute!" Bulbul began to tease him making him more annoyed.

"Oho Bhai! Bus? You are reacting like this just because Bhabhi didn't reply to your texts? Bhai really! Aditi is better than you! Just call her na... What is the big deal?"

"Why should I call? She would call if she wants! Why should I care if she doesn't!"

"Oh Bhai! Stop being such a child! Give poor Robin a break and talk to Bhabhi!"

"And who knows Jiju she could be missing you too!"

Bulbul said as they left the room.

Abhi was about to dial her when he got a message.

Finally. Pragya!

"Abhishek good morning! Can you come see me before work if it's possible?"

Suddenly his morning turned much better than it was.

He knocked on her door.

Aunty has gone to work already it seems. Wonder why Pragya didn't go. What was so important for her that she couldn't wait till they meet in the evening?

Soon she opened the door. His smile faltered a bit seeing her face.

"Pragya are you alright? You don't look so well..."

"I am okay."

She said as they went to sit side by side.

"Abhishek I wanted to talk to you."

"Well, I am listening..."

He added good naturedly as usual but she didn't react as she usually did.

"Pragya what is going on? What is worrying you! Tell me!"

"Abhishek I... I want to end this deal!"

He sat up straight.

What? She wants to end this too! Does that mean she feels the same way as I do?

She... She loves me too!?

Pragya saw a smile forming in his face. See! This is correct! He is already glad!

You are doing the correct thing!

"Really? You too Pragya?"

"What do you mean?"

"You also want to break this deal. And I also want this to end! I just didn't know how to tell you! I was thinking what if you don't feel the same way"

Does he have to sound so happy about all this? Can't he even pretend to be bit upset?

Pragya wondered.

"Well, now you don't have to worry. I will talk to Mr Kapoor today itself!"

"Okay! Huh? Wait a minute! Who is Mr Kapoor?"

"My lawyer?"

"Why do you have to call him?"

"To talk about our divorce?"

"Our WHAT!"

Abhi stared at her.

"Divorce! Abhishek I don't know how to tell you this... But I can't go on living like this after everybody goes. So this is the only option!"

"Only option?"

He asked incredulously.

"Yes! And if you want you can... Well, you can get back together with Tannu. I don't have any problem. I mean why would I? I am letting you go free! But I don't know you might have some problems with her husband though. But that's your problem. Daadi might not like it. But I am sure you will be able to solve that. She would agree knowing you are happy. Aaliyah well, I don't know how she will react but when she understands you truly love Tannu she will..."

"Woah woah woah Pragya! Just stop! Please!"

He jumped to his feet trying to make sense of what she said.

Tannu! Divorce! Letting him go free? True love?

Has she lost it or what!

"Pragya! I don't know what the hell you are talking about!"

"Abhishek there is nothing to hide any more. I know about you and Tannu! I heard you talking to her last night. Of course I was shocked. But now I have accepted the truth. I am letting you go!"

"Pragya for god's sake! Stop! Please stop! I am already confused enough!"

Abhishek thought about his conversation with Tannu last night. But he couldn't connect the missing dots.

"Pragya what do you mean? What did you hear?"

"It doesn't matter now Abhishek. I have accepted the..."

"Oh for god's sake stop with this accepting truth nonsense! What.did.you.hear!"

"Well, I heard you saying she hasn't changed. And then you told you haven't changed... And you said you won't ever change. So now I know. It's really okay Abhishek..."

He didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. What is wrong with this woman!

"Pragya! Will you just give me a chance to explain! Please!"

Pragya stopped her rambling.

"Pragya I did say all that! But not in the context you understood. I was talking to Tannu alright, but not as my ex girlfriend but as Aaliyah's nanad!"

"What?"

"Yeah! Neel is her brother. Maybe that's why I never fully accepted Neel. Because of my dislike towards Tannu. And now don't get any ideas! She is not my long lost love separated by destiny or whatever rubbish like that okay? We were both young and thought we were in love. But we weren't. Soon both of us understood it was never going to work. So we broke up and went on our separate ways. And later we got to know about Aaliyah and Neel. Both of us didn't want it to happen. But eventually we had to make peace with it. When problems started with Aaliyah and Neel both Tannu and I were hell bent on supporting our own sibling. We were already over by then."

"But then yesterday..."

"Yesterday was the best example why she and I never worked out! We are never on the same page! Yesterday she was saying stuff about Aaliyah meeting Neel again and I completely lost it. I don't know what I was telling or what you heard exactly... But that was it! Nothing more. Pragya Tannu is not some poor woman trapped in a marriage. They love each other. Although honestly I have no idea how her husband tolerates her! But the bottom line is she is happy with her husband and I am happy with you!"

Pragya blinked trying to absorb the new information. So all the panic was for nothing?

All the tears! Oh god!

This is so embarrassing!

I was going on and on when there was nothing to worry about!

He said he is happy with me! With me! And I am happy with him! So we are good!

But... Didn't he say he wanted to call off the deal too?

"But Abhishek then why did you want to break our deal?"

Pragya's curiosity deepened seeing him shy away.

"Well... That was just like that..."

"Just like that?"

"Well, I wanted to break the deal because I don't want a deal anymore."

"Huh? Why?"

"Yeah! I don't see any point of having a deal any more. And if you really think about it we have already breached all the terms and conditions you know..."

"So what? You want to make a new deal?"

Pragya asked perplexed.

Abhi laughed.

"Yeah I guess... What do you say?"

"I don't know. What are the new terms?"

"New terms? Well, how about staying in my room even after they all leave?"

Pragya scrunched her nose thinking.

"I guess I can do that. What else?"

"No more nonsense of accepting truths and letting go's!"

She laughed.

"Okay! But in my defence I was only helping you..."

He drew her to her feet and took her hands in his.

"Pragya Pragya Pragya! What am I going to do with you! I just want only one deal with you from today! I want to spend the rest of my life with you! Only with you! Not because of some deal but because... Well, because I love you!"

She heard his words but didn't know how to react.

"Pragya tell something!"

"I... I don't know what to say!"

"Do you love me?"

"I don't know!"

"Do you like spending time with me?"

She nodded.

"Well, do you like to keep doing that..."

She smiled.

"Abhishek!"

He raised his eyebrow.

"I do! But I don't understand how you could love someone like me!"

Abhishek was confused.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I don't know... I am just me! And you are you! So?"

Pragya tried to make him understand.

"Pragya what is wrong with you! That is exactly why I fell in love with you! Because you are you as you say! I don't know how, why, when! But I know I do! I feel happy when I see you, when I talk to you. And when you are not there I keep thinking about you! I love spending time with you. I love fighting with you for silly things. I love when you scowl like that when you are confused and when you bite all your nails when you are nervous. I love when you laugh at my stupid jokes. I love when you care so much about everything and everyone. I love when you fuss over Aditi and when you fight with me for Aaliyah. I love listening to you when you go on and on about some colouring thing even when I don't really understand the difference!"

"Well, I really don't get how you can't see the difference between pink and rose!"

"Oh god! See! That's all you heard from all the reasons I listed just now!"

Pragya laughed.

"Uff! I am sorry! I am sorry! But that's lot of reasons to love me... I don't know what to say..."

Pragya took a minute to form her thoughts.

She carefully placed her hands on his chest and began talking to his chest.

"Abhishek you know I... Well, now this sounds silly. But till yesterday this made so much sense. Well, till yesterday I thought... I thought I am not very lovable? I mean you might not understand. You don't have your parents with you but you have Daadi. Then there is Aaliyah and Purab. They all love you so much. And you are aware of that. But I... Well, as for me, till yesterday I thought no one really loved me. I thought I am a burden to all. Papa left me when I was little and then Ma had to work so hard because of me... Even Daadi, Chachu, Chachi they all seemed to love Bulbul more... I thought I had only Bulbul... I guess that's why she matters so much to me..."

Abhishek felt a pang in his heart hearing her words. She was still averting his eyes. He failed to understand what to say instead he took her face in his hands and wiped away the tears rolling down.

She finally looked at his eyes as she clutched his hand.

"You know Abhishek when I invited Daadi to our place I was so scared. I don't know why but I wanted them to like me. But then again I didn't have any high expectations. And then everything changed. Daadi, Aaliyah, Aditi! They all seemed to like me. They would want to talk to me... Want to spend time with me... Want to know what I think... You have no idea how much it all matters to me... Crazy! I know!"

Pragya said smiling as she wiped away her tears.

"Pragya it's not crazy. I understand you. And they just don't like you but they love you! They really do! And not only Bulbul, your Ma loves you too. I know she does. Look at the way she worries over you. But it's just that she doesn't show it. Your whole family love you! And I love you! So don't you ever say you are not lovable and all this! Do you get that?"

"Abhishek I am not finished yet!"

Pragya laughed through her tears.

"Okay! Go on!"

Abhishek said obediently as he went to hold her by waist.

Pragya smiled seeing his face and shook her head looking into his eyes. How was she so blind?

"Abhishek no one has ever irritated me like you do. I have never argued with anyone like I do with you. I have never laughed all my life as much as I did for the past six months. I know it was just a deal but somewhere down the line it became much much more for me. Your ideas, your views, your happiness, your stories, your problems... It all matters to me. Everything in your life has become a part of my life as well. And I didn't even realize how much you really matter to me till I thought... Well, till I thought you are going to leave me."

"Okay I have to stop you right there! Pragya you know I seriously don't get how you came up with this letting go part. If I mattered to you this much didn't you have to fight for me or something? Why would you let me go?"

"I didn't know you loved me then! I thought you were in love with Tannu!"

"So if you had known would it change anything?"

"Of course!"

"Really?"

"Yes!"

"I don't believe you!"

"Well, Mr Mehra you see I am very selfish when it comes to love! So you better learn it fast that I am not going to give up on my love for anyone! Anyone at all! My love! Only mine!"

Pragya said encircling his neck.

"Okay! So did you just confess that you love me too?"

"Well, I might have!"

"Say the words!"

"What words?"

"Say you love me!"

"You love me!"

"Pragya!"

"Abhishek!"

"Oh come on! Say it!"

"It!"

"Pragya!"

"Abhishek!"

They began their bickering once again.
