Why didnt Aamir told Ranbir not to do BV ... as he was proly the first to read and reject the script. Hrithik didnt have time to read it for 2 years.

This bending over backwards to defend Ranbir is seriously getting pathetic now. He's a big boy the industry needs to let him own the failure.

Yah, Ranbir excels in an unconventional role. tbh, I disliked him a lot and never found him all that appealing, but Barfi changed my opinion of him.

I would rather watch him take risks and do unconventional roles than opt for APKGK and YJHD (hated both). I do agree that he needs to have a better script sense like Aamir.

I liked him in Wake Up Sid, Barfi and Rajneeti!
Of course in Barfi he was astounding but he had the company of a brilliant PC, an ethereal Ileana and gifted director Anurag Basu as.
Im sure Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha will do very well, it has DP too who is the hottest thing right now!
Imtiaz is a great director as well...also expecting Basu's Jagga Jasoos to be a good one!
Its the director and script that matters, and Ranbir IS a very good actor!
The Khans had multiple flops early on in their career, nobody bothered to dissect them at that time. People are being brutal with Ranbir after just 3 flops, though BV was mainly Anurag's debacle.

Speaking for myself only, here are two reasons why Aamir's quote irritated me, and I say this as someone who's loved Aamir for years.

One, I'm not sure why Aamir felt the need to refer to him as a superstar here, assuming this is a direct quote. It sounds like he's taking a dig at the public or the far and few articles that did dare to question Ranbir's star power, or lack thereof. He could have made his point about Ranbir's talent without the superstar tag.

Second, his comment about writing with conviction felt like a dig at Anurag Kayshap. It felt like Aamir was putting the blame for BV's failure entirely on Anurag and absolving Ranbir of any responsibility, except for picking the wrong movie.

It IS the writer's fault, please read all the reviews of BV...the script is very loose, story is boring and wanders off in different directions without coherence and editing is also bad. Even Anurag admitted that the editing didnt work very well for the movie. None of the critics have said bad things abt Ranbir and Anu's acting, they tried their best but if the story and direction is bad then stars cannot save it.

The Superstar tag might be referring to Ranbir's previous superhits. Im sure Aamir knows more abt trade terms and superstar tag than rest of us, he has superb business sense.
Statistically, Ranbir's Hit to Flop ratio is still quite good!
  • Success Ratio (Above average or better) - 58.3%
  • Hit Ratio (Hit or better) - 41.6%

@Pallavi, yes the movie failing overall is the writer or makers' fault. But a superstar should have been able to open it a little better than 5cr, no? I never expected the movie to become a blockbuster or even a hit based on the first trailer alone. It just looked bad. But I don't think anyone expected it to open this badly. Not to make any excuses for Anurag because he failed big time, but we shouldn't make excuses for Ranbir either.

Here's another example. SRK is a superstar. HNY was a ridiculously written movie, and frankly so was Chennai Express. Both of them did well, with the later breaking records at the time. A superstar in my opinion still manages to bring audiences in despite bad reviews. Ranbir is no superstar.

isn't Ranbir going to be in the Peekay sequel.
maybe Aamir is promoting it already and hoping it doesn't flop.

We all LOVED Chennai Express! 😆 Its the type of movie where u leave ur brain outside the theatre and just enjoy the nonsensical fun and comedy! The comedy in the movie was superb! 😆
Didnt watch HNY yet, my sister saw it and said it gave her a headache, 2nd half was horrible...so I didnt care to watch it yet. SRK WAS my fav superstar before JTHJ. We also love Aamir Khan's movies.

As for BV, from trailer itself I knew it would be horrible.
First of all, they made Ranbir look uglier than he really is.
Hes not handsome but as Johny Balraj he looks like a schmuck! 😆 The hero of BV is an anti-hero who goes around shooting people...audience wont connect to him or sympathize with him, unless the script makes him a victim type. Anurag tried to make a Hollywood style gangster movie but failed miserably.
Movies become hits from WOM too, BV could have picked up on Sat-Sun if it had good WOM but it was the opposite.
HNY and CE are meant for masses entertainment, BV was a dhobi ka kutta kind of movie, naa ghar ka naa ghaat ka...neither classes nor masses liked it.

That may be the reason. Aamir wudnt support any1 if its not for his own good. Behroopiya.
