A crack theory...
In some books that I have read about Ramayan & MBH the authors often say that the Vanars, Dev, Gandharva, Apsara, Yaksha, etc were people from different lands. What we would call foreigners? Land unexplored & unknown to our heroes. Travelers.
Maybe Yaksha can be one such traveler from a far off land who once came upon the brothers. Travelers have their supplies, food, water & all. Now travelers are often enthusiastic about learning about the culture & thought processes of the people, philosophies, beliefs of the new lands they travel to. He comes across the other brothers who ask him for water as there is not a source of drinking water anywhere nearby. For whatever reason he refuses them, they get in to a fight & he knocks them unconscious. When Yudi comes he tells yudi that he killed his brothers. Yudi need not know that his brothers are just unconscious & not dead. He needs to get his brothers bodies back but the Yaksha has questions for him. If he answers them he gets back each brother at a time. Hence he answers all the questions which this Yaksha poses before him? Rather than a test, its more of a discussion. He is thirsty for knowledge. The brothers for water. They exchange their resources...and go about their own way😛
