Are they really? Is this to say that these soaps can really be powerful enough to CONDITION mindsets? Don't these mindsets already exist since centuries? Do people really behave the way they do based on the soaps they watch avidly or are the soaps just reflecting an already twisted reality?
Social mindset existed for centuries but with each passing generation and changing environment with access to education, awareness , mediums like serials,books like SOG all sell glossifed patriarchy to a whole new generation who might scoff at the idea of a Man dominating them when you talk to them but they will secretly fantasize all the glorified characteristics these medium sell. So yeah it's making the new generation more accepting of patriarchy in a way where they themsleves "seek" it as a way of pleasure or desire. Social media makes certain unhealthy trends very "accepting" by justifying it using desirable products like say a hot male lead , say Christian Grey.
And if the former is true, then can it really be as simple as changing the quality of fare on television and we will have a societal revolution on our hands? I doubt that.
Social media is powerful but the "change" cannot happen simply because it will cater to the majority . It's a reflector of our society and it will always have content which will enable or support social notions than object it.
