I agree with you there Return-to-Hades.
Russel came across as obnoxious, Aamir a hypocrite and Subhash K jha is always a suck up anyway.

So I will have to stay in the Team STFU Russel. Just because of his derogatory remarks against Aamir as a professional actor.

Imagine if some of our desi actors had said something like this. I don't think they would have been spared.

I just hope this media attention isn't giving Russell fame in India.
The west has already stamped out the plague since his comedy shows have been lacking in new material. Not funny anymore.

Seems like he is trying to shift base. 🤢

Precisely .. but to say that since a person is obnoxious by nature , he reserves the right to be a flamboyant bigoted jerk on public platform & shouldn't be condemned for it is taking things too far .. i mean he has already exercised his right , others might as well exercise their's by condemning him.. if obnoxiousness becomes an excuse to make offensive comments & getting away with it unscathed then i dont know where people are heading with this absolute freedom of speech which doesnt care for context.. i dont think its too much to ask for exercising one's freedom of speech responsibly .. you can be a hypocrite , whine or even be obnoxious as long as you dont make obvious offensive remarks with an obvious malicious intent ..

That's a very slippery slope. Who's to decide what is appropriate or not? Who's to decide what is done with malicious intent or not? Who decides where the line is where something is okay or not?

What is too obnoxious where the freedom of speech must be snatched away? Where is the line and who decides?

There is no "but" where something like freedom of speech is concerned. Maybe some people don't like cusses. Maybe some people don't like gay humor. Maybe someone doesn't like anything derogatory said about their religion. There can be millions of things different people are offended by.

The only other choice is a completely sanitized world where nobody can say anything lest someone's sensitive ears start burning with offense.

You wanna defend freedom of speech, that's fine, but when someone speaks like this, they WILL NOT be getting my support. And they shouldn't just be able to "get away with it" coz it's their opinion and they have freedom to speech. We can also get up and say, "STFU"

And funny, you say that Russel should have the right to speak and NOT mind his own business right?

Check out his statements.

"Seriously, who is he, the so-called artist, to say that he found it violent and that AIB and rest involved should have been responsible? He did not even see it! Someone please ask him to shut up and take care of his own business," says the Canadian funnyman of Indian origin.

Russell, who was scheduled to perform in the capital on Saturday night, further slammed Aamir for remarking without knowing. "He is an actor; not even a real artist. He goes in front of the camera and reads out lines that someone else has written. Then, he is giving his opinion about something that is honest!"

It's just funny coz you're here defending Russel's right to speak, when he's basically saying Aamir doenst have the right to speak and mind his own business. See the problem?

And freedom of speech means insulting an actor this way? You're trying to turn this into an "people are getting offended coz how dare he insult the great Aamir" when it's simply, he was rude to an actor in such an obnoxious and blatant manner. I don't care if it was Aamir, if Russel had said this about Nana Pategar, Naseerudin Shah, or any other respected actor of India, I would have stood against him.

Then wow, maybe we should all get up and applause Abhijeet next time he disses Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali and says that all Pakistani singers are crap right? 👏 to freedom of speech

I don't have to agree or disagree with Peters' statements to defend his right to say what he wants. Everyone has that right.
Aamir too had the right to say whatever he wants and similarly those who think his words are hypocritical or stupid can tell him to shut up.

At the end of the day, it's just words. It's not like Aamir really has to shut up. He would have to probably if he got the same FIRs filed against him and threats of jail time the AIB guys got.

The whole issue at heart about this AIB controversy is that the government itself is trying to crack down and rob their freedom to speak as they feel. When someone influential like Aamir gives a mealy mouthed reply about how he "scolded" the guys involved, it just makes the government look good as they try to stomp on basic human rights.

For that alone, it's good that there are some people who have had enough spine to reply back to him.

I'm not standing with Aamir here. I think his statements were just as dumb and the reposes on this forum were enough to demonstrate that.
But Russel Peters IMO looked even dumber by degrading an entire PROFESSION by saying that Actors are not artists and they just go read people's lines.

He's gonna have to bear the brunt of that. So yeah, he's hearing it from this forum.
It's not a matter of "How dare someone question Aamir"

it's "How dare YOU insult an entire profession? How can you just stand there and insult a person like that?"

And PS. I think enough people have given Aamir a strong response to his statements. Russel Peters isn't a lone mighty hero to stand up against big bad Aamir.

So what, though? Yes, he was rude. So what? You can call him rude which you and many people are. That's your right. It doesn't mean there should be any government action trying to stop him from speaking just because some people dislike what he says.

Similarly Abhijeet has every right in the world to complain about Pakistani singers if he wants. You don't have to like it and you can insult him in return but nobody can take away his right to say what he wants. It's not about agreeing or disagreeing. Everyone is free to do that. But they should not have FIRs and prison threats and harassment from the government for it and thereby forcing them to stop speaking.

Freedom of speech means being able to say whatever you want, regardless of how unpopular it might be, without government intrusion and threats. That is a basic human right and it should be protected.
