It's not like we're claiming it to be the best and most prestigious thing to have happened. Far from it. SRK has been honored by the Malaysian President, the Russian President, Mexico's President, New Zealand's President, France's President etc. It's nothing new for him to get recognized by world leaders.

But it still makes us happy and proud each time. Why is that such a problem for some of you?

exactly...SRK fans feel equally happy anytime he is recognized globally in any way...people are just harping on this theory of colonial mindset...are we really that backward that we will get happy just because a western President mentioned Shahrukh...really?? The President of United States is always considered the most powerful man in the world...and anything that comes out of his mouth has tremendous value...that is what the fans are happy about...continuously harping about the colonial mindset shows that we still suffer from that inferiority complex and nothing else...try separating it from everytime the west mentions and acknowledges us...otherwise it tends to become hypocritical like AB sr...when he dissed the Oscars but went ahead and accepted a 10 min role in The Great Gasby...

Awards and recognitions are different matters. This was a researched PR excercise by the US President to impress Indians. No need to get over the moon at this IMHO.
