The thing is both of them view the world differently. Both of them have had bitter experiences in life but Nandini chose to look at the positive end of things, she chose to believe that there is always a ray of light at the end of the tunnel, she chose to hope but Manik on the other hand feels stifled by the fake pleasantries and the duplicitious nature of the ppl around him. His experiences with his mother has left him cynical in his worldview and thus his approach to life is just so contrasting from nandini's. Manik is cynical, he is a realist and believes that ppl won't help u unless there is an ulterior motive for them to do so .On the other hand, nandini takes ppl at face value, she is simple, helpful, trusting and believes in the goodness of others.
Both of them are extreme from this angle and yet they r joined together by their desire to help their friend come what may, to always stand for the right and to never let their close ppl suffer. They connect through their shared principles and ethics and despite everything else, this is what that brings them together. Manik's cynicism balances out nandini's way too trusting and optimistic nature and this balance would ultimately make them come together and take the realistic, the practical route not only in this situation but also in life in the days to come.
