Genuine kostin- What is Hinduism's stance on abortion?
I'm not talking legality (upto 20 weeks AOG is legal in India), I'm asking morally.. are there any religious connotations to 'killing an unborn fetus' etc. or is it not considered 'live' until birth?

@BI - Interesting point, I doubt the boys know about the abortion thing or else Harshad would have totally be cut out from their lives, Alya won't look for redemption or apology from Mukti. He broke her heart by cheating on her- that is one thing Mukti was always senstiive about coming from a family where she saw her parents' do that to each other. That kind of sucked her interest in love. Her issues stem from emotional betrayal and she seems to make it up by numbing it using her sexuality. I don't remember Mukti's family issues actually, must have skipped that in the fast-forwarding. But yeah, this does make sense.

It was beyond OTT and cringe-worthy , i was a bit disappointed by the execution but then they had to publicly shame Harshad and Navya for the storyline and parallels. Just the teeth clenching and the whole acting was so overdone. Veebha was out of sorts here. Nandini stole the show even then, which says a lot. Turmeric in Carbonara, told you. 😆
It was a consensual, mutual decision, Navya cannot hold him responsible, he didn't promise her marriage or anything. She was too naive and silly to think that this will hold him in her life for eternity. But yes she can sue his ass and put him in jail for trying to illegally abort, actually she should do that and get that hospital license cancelled. I'm just super-impressed that she actually figured it all out on her own, expecting anything more would be pushing it.

It would be an interesting sequence and might give all the girls to shine in this track, but I hope for no more OTT and restrain. Hope she makes a sensible choice. Amen to that sistah.

According to the scriptures, when the egg is fertilised that is when the soul has entered ..although I am not so sure.
That is one reason why Navya would be against abortion..she has no right to kill the baby.

@13th - Hinduism as a religion and as a teaching is very abstract and wide, it lets you make your life choices. Scriptures differ from one another and arguments can be quoted or referenced from both sides. What I think they aim t say is , foetus is life because it has soul, so it is a sin to kill it under most circumstances , but then given the timeframe when these texts were written , I doubt teen pregnancy was looked as it is in today's time. Then children were pretty much married in their teens, or promised to each other during the childhood, so circumstances were different. Also motherhood was seen to be the future for every girl. Different world back then.

But I do think pregnancies born out of rape, deception etc were not blamed on the female at the time the scriptures were written, misinterpretation is dne usually by society later on to suit the social dynamics and gender discrimination.

It is actually counted among the most heinous, horrendous crimes an individual can commit, according to vedas and other sacred texts. Some texts call it a worse sin than killing of one's own Mother and Father. Also, there is some reference to how a girl who aborts looses her cast. There is also some gender discrimination, killing of male fetus is a more serious crime, especially the one belonging to the Brahman cast -It equates to killing of a priest,saadhu-mahatma, a full- fledged grown-up Brahman.
It is also supposed to interfere with the Soul of the fetus and damage it's chances of spiritual growth, a Karmic damage.
And obviously, Non-violence includes no destruction of fetuses.
But there is this Ancient Hindu text on Medicine and surgery according to which abortion should be the first option for the surgeon if the embryo is defective, damaged and can hurt the Mother or kill her. Here, because she is the full fledged grown human with more Karmic actions while the fetus isn't even grown and started his cycle of Karmic actions -- Mother's life is more important and should be saved since the child being born and Mother dying will bring bad karma for the people involved. While the fetus dying won't be as bad for the people involved, a lesser damage to their good Karmic Dabba.

Genuinely asking, you think we will refuse a post from you?
Different stroke, different pen - yet the magic and the happiness- how can one refuse that?😕

I also wanted to talk about that little Manik-Abhimanyu moment and how subtle it was, and exactly why Abhimanyu should not die just so he can be a friend for Nandini.
When he talks about smiles, Manik's thoughts immediately go to Mukti. that's his first protective instinct for his friend talking, and he's appreciating the fact that this guy is making her smile, And I effin' LOVED that Abhimanyu pointed out Nandini's happiness to Manik instead, and that in turn brought that complete joy on Manik's face. The fact that Manik himself is the reason for that smile. Ah such a good friend, and a brilliant shipper on top of it. I really really liked that little scene.

@Genie: If we're talking about the 'Gita' perspective of Hinduism, then that is not moralizing or rigid at all.. all actions are contextual in their rightness or wrongness even 'murder' (since the soul is immortal et al)
Besides the entire purpose of that discourse was to convince Arjuna to start a war and 'kill' thousands.. so dissing abortion in that scripture would be total hypocrisy, wouldn't it?😆😆

But I meant more the current interpretation of beliefs... Would Navya as a character be opposed to abortion on religious/moral grounds? I would like it if they showed her struggle with this dilemma and then let her rationalize the whole issue and eventually decide in favor of abortion as the most sensible and practical solution given the present circumstances.. that is how I would like this track to play out and the social message I feel needs to be sent.. sometimes religion simply shouldn't influence life choices and this I believe is definitely one such instance when that should be the case..
