"No Raghav I cannot do it!! I just can't!" "You have to Jaan, I know its not easy but you have to." "Kalpi beta" "I am sorry Raghav Baba" "You must be" Kalpi and Vitthal were startled to hear him saying like this. "I call you Baba coz you are my father in law and you call me Baba" Kalpi smiled looking at him and on hearing his words. Vitthal had tears in his eyes. "Raghav" Vitthal shook his head as if asking Now its okay and Raghav smiled whiled nodding in yes.
"Kalpi Raghav is right, you have to do this." "But Baba...how can I" "Beta some people get cured only when they taste their own medicine. Its high time now. Abhi nahi roka to phir aage bahut chot pahunchegi(If now now then it will hurt a lot later on) I know you are not liking this but then when have medicines started tasting sweeter." She was still not convinced with the idea. She felt every bit that she is doing wrong. "Kalpi, my Rajkumari do you think I will tell you to do something wrong or will Raghav tell you to do something wrong." "Maan ja na Kalpi itna bhav kyun kha rahi hai. Wise bhi shaadi ke baad pati ki har baat maan na patni ka farz hota hai" Pakya said teasingly. Raghav and Vitthal chuckled while Kalpi said "Dada aap bhi na."
"Kalpi its the only option trust me." Kalpi nodded and hugged him tightly. "I'll miss you" she said "Me too. Love you" "Love you too." Both came outside the room. She was blushing with obvious reasons while Raghav had a frown coz his jaan was leaving. "Kalpi don't worry I'll take care of your Raghav." Gauri said. She smiled and bent down to touch her feet. She blessed her."Take care Kalpi" Maya said while hugging Kalpi. Sammy too gave a side hug to Kalpi and said "Bhabhi don't worry you are doing nothing wrong. In fact now is the time to set the wrong things right." She shook her head affirmatively.
Raghav drove Kalpi and her family to Chawl. Kalpi was supposed to stay with them few days. Raghav was going to have dinner with his in laws today. Hence Sammy and Maya stayed back with Gauri to give her company. The moment the car reached the chawl the chawl residents gathered around to see who the owner is. Kalpi stepped out of the car. She was wearing a light green anarkali with matching accessories. There was a designer clutch in her hand while the other hand was clasped tightly by Raghav. She was looking like a Princess. The glow was visible. Manda Tai came in front and said "Arre wah Kalpi turn to ek dum badal gayi. Lagta hai Raghav Baba teko bahut pyar karate hai. "Kyun Manda Tai aapko koi shak hai kya."Manda feigned a smile.
Last time the welcome was not warm but today he knew things are different everyone was treating Kalpi very well. Although with Kamla maa things were still the same.
They stepped inside the chawl and Raghav met all of them warmly. He then went with the trio towards Kalpi's house. Kamla Maa got aware of his coming due to the hustle bustle created downstairs by the chawl members. She knew priorly that they are coming here for dinner but what she didn't know was Kalpi is gomma stay with them for few days. Raghav felt bad not for himself but for Kalpi.Though she knew yet didn't come out to see us.Suddenly he felt his fist being held more tightly than before. He looked at Kalpi whose face carried the pain due to her mother's cold behaviour. He looked at Vitthal who gave an assuring look to him and he relaxed a bit knowing fully well theres only one man more on this earth who loves his Kalpi even more than him and that is his father in law.
All of them came at the entrance where Raghav and Kalpi waited to get inside. Kamla came with Aarti ki thali. Kalpana's face lit up on seeing her Aai welcoming them but the next moment her face turned pale when they bent down to take her blessings and she took few steps back and said "Aaiye". Kalpi looked at Raghav then at Vitthal and then at Pakya. All three of them were blank. She realised how much they were right. Her resolve became more firm with this cold behaviour put up by her mother towards her. They stepped in and Kamla noticed a suitcase and looked at Pakya who was holding it. He came near and said "Aai Kalpi is gonna stay here for few days. Its her pagphere ki rasam so..." Reality dawned on her that she forgot to invite her daughter for Pagphere. It has been a week since she got married and she didn't call Kalpi when she knows its a ritual to be performed after marriage. She felt bad but then she remembered how she ran away with Raghav and got married.How she broke her trust. The sternness came back again on her face.
The dinner was an unsusal thing today.The mother daughter duo didn't talk with each other. The only occassional talks were from Pakya's side who was sharing chawl incidents and was trying to lighten the air which was filled with tension. Raghv knew that very well and reciprocated equally. "Waise jiju Kalpi aapko dhang ka khana toh deti hai na? Nai who kya hai humari Kalpi humesha se kitchen mei kam or study table par jyada rahi hai toh..." "Pakya Kalpi khana bahut achha banati hai and mostly khanachef hi banata hai. Kalpi a hi Mom ka khayal rakhegi and after few days she will rejoin her job." Kamla was looking at Kalpi who was looking at Raghav admiringly. She didn't even once tried to talk to her. Kamla felt a pinch in her heart with this behaviour of Kalpi.
Soon it was time for Raghav to leave. Though he didn't want to but he had to. He greeted everyone and they were left alone besides Raghav's car. She hugged him tightly. "I'll miss you." "Me too but this is also equally important. Right. Kalpi please don't weaken your resolve. We have to do this. Be strong remember if the outcome is right it will be beneficial for us. Right" "Hmmm, I will do it Raghav I'll do it." "Chalo I should leave now.Mom must be waiting for me. Bye." "Bye take care love you." "love you too." Raghav drove away for home.
She turned towards her home.She was just thinking about tomorrow. Going by what Pakya said Pakhi will come tomorrow. It will be their first face off. She huffed aloud and wen inside and shut the door.
She kept tossing on her bed. Sleep was far away from her eyes. She was missing Raghav,her home her room. Raghav was also lying on his bed in similar position. He was missing her dearly. Messaging was not an option as it was quite late and the vibration of phone or even light of it would wake them up and he didn't want to disturb anyone. They kept thinking about each other and finally drifted off to sleep.
Morning sun not only spread its rays and brightened the atmosphere but it also brought a new Kalpi for Kamla.She wasn't submissive or docile any more. She knew herself very well. She woke up only to meet Kamla and Vitthal who were already having their morning tea. It was time to put her plan in action. She wished Vitthal Good Morning and went inside bathroom to freshen up. She ignored her Aai. Kamla looked at her retreat form and was surprised by her behavior. Moments later Kalpi came outside. She was wearing a baby pink saree and sleeveless blouse. She was looking beautiful. The Chooda of her hands matched with her dress perfectly. She filled her maang and put a bindi. She prayed to her Bappa.
After waking up Pakya who was sleeping till now she waited desperately for Raghav's phone. Her phone was no longer a simple smart phone. It was IPhone gifted by obviously Raghav. Her phone buzzed and Kalpi jumped on her phone. "hello good morning." Kamla was till now looking at her daughter and her changed behaviour. Herdemeanour was evident enough to tell her that she is very happy with Raghav. But the coldness her eyes were spilling was something that was bothering her.
"She didn't have a word with me form the time she came here and now also she is busy in talking with Raghav baba."
"Kamla Maa" a voice broke her trance and disturbed Kalpi's conversation.
"Who is this Kalpi?" Raghav asked. "Is it Pakhi?" "You bet" Raghav chuckled while Pakhi was stood frozen at the doorstep looking at Kalpi. She didn't expect her here. She knew her presence will endanger her motive. She kept staring at her and observed the change in her demeanour. She confessed to herself "She is looking beautiful. Who wouldn't look beautiful in designer sarees and that heavy solitaire in her ring finger. But she has changed. I am standing here she knows it yet she didn't come to me and ask how I am. If she would have been the old Kalpi she would have understood my outburst and would have come to me to console me. It would have been easy to regain her confidence. In fact before her marriage to My Raghav she had become friends with me but now...and to whom she is talking to." Noticing the occassional blush on her face she understood who is on the other side of the phone.
Not once Kamla thought how would Kalpi feel and went towards Pakhi to welcome her. "Pakhi aana waha kya khadi hai." Her words broke Pakhi's chain of thoughts and she looked at her. Klpi successfully hid her pain. She knew she has to be strong. Pakhi took it as a perfect opportunity to hurt Kalpi but she was unknown that that this time Kalpi has come fully prepared. "Kamla Maa" Pakhi screamed intentionally and hugged her tightly while staring at Kalpi who gave her a royal ignorance and was now busy in talking with he Tai.
"Tai you had your breakfast. Did you take your medicines? Did you sleep propey last night?" Kalpi fired series of questions on her. "Kalpi beta I am absolutely fine.And what can happen to me haan when you have trained my son your husband so well. From morning onwards he is giving me the feeling of being my daughter in law. I tell you, you are better because you talk so much with me and he... how did you fell in love with mam who speaks so less." "Tai" Kalpi chuckled while Raghv was silently listening to their conversation. He always knew that his Mom and Klpi share a great chemistry but never got a chance to witness it. But today he was seeing it right before his eyes and was very happy. But certainly he was not ready to trust her on this so easily. "Mom please its important please" "Chintu you were already talking to her before, now its my turn..." "Please Mom...please...please please please." Kalpi blushed on listening the convo between the mother-son duo. She was enjoying Raghav's desperateness. "Raghav you are too much.Kalpi lo baat karo. Bye take care beta and yes remember one thing I am always with you beta." "Thank you Tai. Thank you so much."
"Kalpi..." "Raghav what was that?" "C'mon ya I wanted to talk to you its really important." "Achha bolo kya hai" "Jaan mere kapde...tum nikal kar toh gayi ho na" "Raghav you are too much...go to the room open the wardrobe and look at the right side I have kept your clothes separtely. Choose which ever you want." "Thanks jaan I love you, you are the best. Achha listen, on a serious note, come to office in the noon. We will.have our lunch together and now All the Best." "Okay" "Bye Love you." "Love you too." Kalpi ended the call. The last line was loud enough for Pakhi to feel jealous and burn in anger. She realised that Gauri has resolved the differences with Kalpi. The manner in which both wee talking it was clear there relationship doesn't have any problems now. "So what if its not there I'll create it between them. But right now since Kalpi is done with her phone its time to make her feel envy of me that her own mother is showering all her love on me." Pakhi thought. As soon as Kalpi turned Pakhi started again "Kamla Maa" stressing more on it to hurt her. "I would love to have ginger tea from your hands will you make it for me." "Of course beta why not." Kamla asked Kalpi as well "Kalpi will you have tea. No Aai I guess you are quite busy with your daughter. So its okay enjoy your time with her." Pakhi was shocked to see such a behaviour. Kalpi has never answered her Aai back and that too in such a sarcastic tone.
"Good for me. Her rude behaviour will help me in instigating Kamla Bai. Kalpi you are digging your own grave." She smiled inwardly and then said "Kalpi how are you talking with Kamla Maa. Have you forgotten your manners? Don't you remember she is our mother!" "I beg your pardon!" Kalpi said with an expression that clearly showed her mellowdramatic words didn't effect her at all. "She is not my mother Pakhi. She was and she is your mother. She has always kept you, your needs, your happinesss before mine. Which does that partiality to her own child.In fact a mother always keeps a balance between all her children and she ignored me and Dada for you and to top it all you are not related to us in any manner. Still...No she is not my mother. She is just your mother. Instead of being happy that her daughter is happy in her marriage she is feeling sad for you, who is nothing to her.No she isn't MY MOTHER. In fact from childhood you wanted to have all her love for yourself. So now she is all yours. Her love, her attention everything." Pakhi was speechless. She didn't know what to say. Kalpi's form was calm and composed as if she was just stating the obvious before her which was but she was never that much vocal. Nowhere it reflected pain or complain. Kalpi turned back again and looked at Pakhi and said "Pakhi next time before talking to me keep your voice low. I am not entitled to hear such a scream." Pakhi was shocked further. But Kalpi continued "And yes one more thing till the time I am here don't come without informing priorly coz I don't want visitors to disturb me every now and then. Alright so for now OUT."
She smiled while Pakhi stood still. Kamla looked at her daughter who was standing there with a calm look as if nothing happened. She couldn't believe her daughter said such harsh words for her. She was shocked to core. Meanwhile Pakhi gained her composure back and thought of trying one last trick. Kalpi this is Kamla Maa's house. You are no one to tell me when should I come and how should I come. Did you get it?" "Yes, but you are forgetting one thing this is my Baba's house as well as my Dada's house too and also my house too. And one more thing which is most important for you to know and get it straight in your head before arguing with me further This is Singhnia Chawl and I am KALPANA RAGHAV SINGHANIA." Pakhi's eyes widened with shock. She looked at Kalpi who was no longer the same. She is strong enough to answer back. Yes she was standing before her matching her level or may exceeding it. She silently went away knowing well now that she cannot use Kamla Bai against Kalpi. The firmness with which she answered her back she believed Kalpi no longer cares for her Aai.
Kalpi studied her face and understood she has hit the target to a certain extent. She knew Pakhi won't give up so easily but for now this dose was sufficient. She looked at her retreating form and remembered what Pakya said yesterday.
"Jiju, Kalpi Pakhi is increasing her number of visits in our home. And its quite obvious because no one is there to stop her. She is brainwashing her everyday and everyday I see Aai thinking more about your marriage decision and your breaking her trust. Kalpi she is actually potraying the things in such a manner that lead Aai to believe that you came in between Jiju and her, that you snatched him from her. Kalpi Aai was already against this alliance and with this continous negative thoughts that she is imbibing from Pakhi things are getting difficult."
"I cannot believe this!! Pakhi can stoop so low that she is using Kamla Maa against you. Khoon to asar dikhayega hi. Akhir hai to Kapoor logon ka bharosa todna aur unka istamal karna unki purani aadat hai. But we have to do something Kalpi. We cannot start revenge while putting Kamla Maa's life at stake." "You are right Chintu. First we have to get Kamla out from all this." "Ya Mom" "Raghav" Sammy said in between "I have a plan. Why don't you sent Bhabhi to her home. After all her Pagphere ki Rasam is still pending. By this she can take things under her control and things might improve." "You are right Sammy. Kalpi go and stay there and make Pakhi realise who you are and what you are!" "Kalpi beta not just Pakhi, its time for Kamla also to realise her folly. Make her realise where she is wrong and in a tone she cannot expect from you. Because if you'll go by normal way she will never understand. Take reverse theory and make her understand the difference between good and bad." All agreed with what Vitthal said.
Coming out of her trance Kalpi went downstairs towards Bappa's temple. Kamla looked at her and said with tear filled eyes "You have changed so much Kalpi." She was yet to believe that Kalpi said those harsh words for her.
Such is life. Sometimes you have to be harsh against that one person whom you love the most to get them back into their senses. Kamla's goodness became her biggest weakness and she was exposed to all sort of dangers.It was important for them to get her out of this mess. And nobody can do it apart from Kalpi. Pakhi never thought Kalpi will behave with her like this. She couldn't fathom her behaviour. But yes today she realised she is not tackling Kalpana Vitthal Jadav she is tackling Kalpana Raghav Singhania. Her attitude matched up with Raghav equally.
