Can also be translated as below.
then Krishna's taking Karna in his chariot and Karna's consecration along with a UPAAYA (the means of attaining an end, especially one that is convenient & practical; but considered improper or immoral) ; and Karna's rejection of the same from heroism.

The word KMG translated as 'pride' is Shaundeerya which also means heroism/manliness/confidance.
