But then that's what makes it a thorn. It simply is selfless and selfish enough to love and burn for it.

Rida and IS(I don't know your name) standing ovations for both of you for those words. I have always felt that Manik is a lonely little boy who masks his insecurities and shortcomings by frantically being this saviour of sorts for the Fab5. Its kind of sad, that he needs to be this wall, all the time and yet there was no one to be the sounding board for him until Nandini. And she was perfect, because she is the most unjudgemental person on the show, she accepts people for who they are, flaws and all.

@Blossom - I think Manik has been explicit about his hate for Harshad, he has been very clear about his dislike but unlike the latter he is not obsessed with revenge. Alya also pointed out to Harshad how wrong he was. So something did happen which tore apart the friends . But I think it could be that Manik picked a side and Harshad felt betrayed, maybe fab5 castrated him apart and he holds the grudge of isolation . I don't know , he these days justifies his deed and actions to their hate which seems crazy.

To sum Manik up in one word, I'll say:CLUELESS.

And why shouldn't he be? Who has there been to tell him what's wrong and what's right? I asked this question in one of my posts on this forum, but I'll ask again, can you speak a language you know not? Can you know a value you've heard not? Can you know what you've not been taught? Who has there been for Manik? Who has guided him? Who has told him that you Manik Malhotra are no always right. That you take decisions that'll cost you everything, that sometimes the paths you'll choose for yourself will take you to bitter places.
Who will craddle his head at night and pull it in their lap? Who'll wipe his tears when he goes back home and miss Nandini? NO ONE.
Manik has had no one to teach him how to be, how to love, how to live.

So yes he's rash and impulsive and foolish. At times he's hard and wrong, and down right cruel. Not to forget controlling.
Manik is all that.
but without being taught he is also a man who loves.
He simply doesn't love.
HE LOVES LIKE his life depends on it.
and he loves Nandini. he loves his friends.
He cannot be asked to choose between them. It is wrong and insane.
But he was asked to make a choice. And with no guidance, he made a choice he always somewhere knew he had to make.
He chose agony. He chose his most feared companion, darkness.
Because he'd always known he will have to.

Except that he undersetimates his love for her.
Time is unbeaten as a teacher.
and time will teach him.
That you cannot simply let go of survival.
FOR HIM SURVIVAL IS SIMPLY. light.

@bold: So true. You know sometimes I think Nandini is incapable of true hatred. I mean yes, she does get angry, but once the irrationality of it wears off-- you can see she still tries to see the good in people. That maybe naive of her, but it also makes her someone who is perfect for Manik. She accepts the flaws as they are, as an inherent part of someone. She looks for ways to excuse the inexcusable in people.
