You can condemn , but not call him anti national or anti army... this is a movie that shows some of the bad things army has done ... there are many movies that show the good things... but someone needs to hold a mirror to the army too... and before many people descend on me and label me as an anti national or anti army... if there is anything army could have done differently they should also look at it... don't tell me that all movies show all aspects of every conflict... when you are happy seeing movies which show only the Indian govt side of the conflict, why not allow that there will be movies which show only the people side of it... I dont think the movie says terrorrism is great... so I dont see why so much intolerance about army as an institution that cannot be questioned...

Just like how you have opinion others also have opinion and they have every right to like or boycott. I think there is no need of his pov explanations because if VB has his POV without even knowing the complete facts and without even residing there and knowing the actual problems the residents of Kashmir have been facing then audience can also have their POV and have complete right to accept or reject the movie.

^ Forget 100 films, try and name any 5 film made in Bollywood or anywhere, that showed the Indian / Army POV in Kashmir. Where the Army was glorified for what it does in Kashmir or glosses over its so-called atrocities committed there?

While there are films like Yahaan, Shaurya and even Roja that shows the militants in a sympathetic light and questions the Army and its activities in Kashmir, specifically.
The only two films that I can remember showing the Kashmiri Pandit POV is Sheen and a short-film called Megha and I can bet, half of you have not even heard of these films! Even in these films, the Kashmiri Muslim POV was shown, along with the suffering of the Kashmiri Hindus.
Once again, not questioning VB's intentions behind making the film. He has all the rights to make any film he wants, even if it is anti-national. But you cannot stop anyone else from calling him out and saying that he has indeed made a film that paints the Indian Army and Indian State in a bad light.
If he has the right and creative freedom of portraying what he thinks is the reality, why can't I or anyone else have the right to say that he is bullshitting and presenting a false picture of the Kashmir reality?

Btw, my comments have nothing to do with Shahid or Tabu or the film in general.

I think, despite the fact that I totally stand against what the film is trying to portray, the performances in the movie are breathtaking and it would indeed be a shame if the actors walked away without awards for their work.
My comment is only on VB's POV in the film. Nothing more, nothing less.
And when I say that VB has made an anti-army film, I am not in anyway condemning him to be an anti-national or for that matter, even anti-army.
Expressing yourself in a certain way does not mean that it defines you as a person. Haider is VB's vision of Kashmir, it has nothing to do with what he is. Nationa or anti-national. And hence, I think the call to ban the film is silly.
So what if I didn't like the film and found it upsetting? There are many others who loved it.
Why stop them from enjoying the film?

[@pharma3 I am not questionign audience right to reject or acept the film.. thy have every right... I am only saying that does not make VB anti national or anti army... but yes it means he believes army did commit atrocities... which is true also... and when you were happy seeing only the one side of it which glorified army in all other movies why not for once see that army could also have done wrong? when we never asked other filmmakers to also show the innocent people's side of it when t hey were making jingoistic films that touted India as being always in the right... why not allow one voice which says while terrorism is bad, we could also have been in the wrong? why so much intolerance to that view point?

I donn't think army is such an infallible institution that it cannot be questioned... Almost all hindi films show army as the messiah or as people doing glorious work and not enough is written or said anywhere about the atrocities committed by Indian army... neither in press nor in any other medium... very few movies have attempted to capture that part of it... and somehow people also seem to believe Indian army should never be questioned... I dont understand why when there is enough evidence that they have committed atrocities... so why is it so intolerable for us to hear one word against the army?? not only that they have committed atrocities even within army there are horror stories of how the lower levels are treated by officers etc.. how much of that comes out? so why do we treat army as some holy cow who cannot be questioned and who can do no wrong? ofcourse people can criticise the movie.. I am not saying they cannot... and I dont think Vishal Bharadwaj said his movie does not criticise army... he presented one POV which is not normally presented in Indian movies atleast not in any major mainstream movie...

Maybe VB just needed a controversy. His last film sank without trace.

No one is stopping anyone from making a movie on Kashmiri Pundits... There is no ban on such a thing... they can make... but VB made it from this POV... and it is his prerogative and army always gets appreciation for everything... but what about the bad things they do? what about the people who suffer because of it? where will they go? are they not part of the indian state? who will protect them? What about what army does in all the reas where AFSPA is imposed? True they have a difficult life... but does that justify whatever they do to innocent people? no one is justifying terrorists.. but when state sets out to torture innocent people what will they do? they are powerless in front of the state... stop looking at this as hindu muslim and look at it as something that could happen to an innocent family suspected of doing wrong... even justice system says even if 100 criminals escape one innocent should not be punished ... but we are talking about a lot of innocents being punished many times for things they did not do... what is wrong if someone is trying to say their POV? one movie does not make it like army is only bad when there are 100 movies glorifying army... and nothing gets talked about the bad things they do! army is also made up of humans and humans have good and bad in them... so army also does good and bad... all the good things that they do would not condone the bad things also right? you should read about some of the stories that are not so complimentary about army from areas where AFSPA is imposed... absolute power corrupts absolutely and army is no exception... so it is important that even with all the good deeds the bad deeds dont go unpunished...
