That picture you posted looks like he's finally content. That is something we havent seen him be earlier. Like you said, he's always wished for his children to be together. He's wanted to have that family. And with Ishita's help he'd even come close a couple of times. BUT, the Rakhi celebration was like someone just waved a magic wand and made his wishes come true
The man who'd been momentarity disheartened by Shagun's denial to come to the Bhalla house was quickly cheered up by his wife who came up with plan B. Although it looked like she did that for Ruhi's happiness, there is no hiding from the fact that she also wanted to see his smile back. Their unspoken words were were clear when she pleads with him to go along with her plan, and her thanks her for coming up with that plan.
For a change, his son is also behaving like a good Boy, and his ex-wife isn't causing any drama. The Raman who witnessed his son and daughter participate in their 'first' Rakhi ceremony together was someone who couldn't believe his luck. His emotions at that time not only revealed content, but also the gratitude towards the one woman who's changed his life for the better.
Last but not the least, there is now hope in his eyes, that things may be alright after all. He's been through enough pain. He wants to now experience real happiness.
