SRK's double role with a difference

According to reports doing the rounds, Shah Rukh Khan has a double role in Farah Khan's forthcoming Om Shanti Om. He plays the roles of Om and Om, again. But unlike other double roles, the two Oms do not come face to face ever in the film. Apparently, the first Om is a junior artist, who is killed by a jealous hero, played by Arjun Rampal. Om, the junior artist is then reborn as Om!

Besides the reincarnation theme, which is a direct take off from Subash Ghai's Karz, the film also takes potshots at the who's who of the Hindi film industry in the 70s. One of the main targets is believed to be Manoj Kumar. But it's all believed to be in good faith with no malice intended. Of course, Shah Rukh and Farah are counting on the fact that people will see the humour in it.

Ranbir to romance SRK's Girl

Siddharth Anand tried hard to keep the cast of his next Yash Raj film under wraps because the young director was not allowed to talk about his next film as of now.

Unabnle to do so the news is that Ranbir Kapoor will be romancing Deepika Padukone in Siddharth's new film. This film is both Ranbir's and Deepika's second film post their debut films, namely Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saanwariya and Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om, respectively.

Even though both Ranbir and Deepika are under contracts (until their debut films release) with Bhansali and Shah Rukh Khan's production house, respectively, both newcomers have been given a green signal from both the quarters.

Neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Bhansali wants to bind the two youngsters. They were more than willing gave their consent to let the two debutantes come together for their second film."

Bipasha Basu is also opposite Ranbir in an intriguing role.

Some tips for Shah Rukh Khan

After Deepika Padukone, it's the turn of another model-turned-actor, Shawar Ali to get Shah Rukh Khan's advice. Shawar is doing a cameo role in Farah Khan's forthcoming film Om Shanti Om .

And Shawar told us that during the shooting SRK gave him some important tips. He told Shawar that one should always be ready to learn from the mistakes and see to it that it's not repeated again.

"Shah Rukh would make me sit on the monitor and see from behind the camera as to how he shoots with different variations for the same scene," he says.

But even Shawar started giving SRK some tips, fitness ones! Do we see a mutual admiration society forming here?

Shah Rukh Khan plays a reincarnated man

The Bollywood superstar will reportedly be seen playing a double role in his home production Om Shanti Om .

It is not for nothing that Farah Khan 's next movie 'OSO' is being compared to Subhash Ghai's 'Karz'. Tinsel tattle has it that Farah's film will have Shah Rukh Khan in double roles.

The first role will have SRK playing a junior artiste named Om in the film industry in 1970s who is killed by an envious colleague. The second role will have the same character reincarnated as Om Kapoor. But this reincarnated Om struggles in film industry to become its topmost star.

'Om Shanti Om' is turning out to be a huge project. The film will have cameos by many Bollywood celebrities, among whom will be Rishi Kapoor and Subhash Ghai , the lead actor and director of 'Karz'.

Kapoor and Ghai will feature in a scene in which Om Kapoor (SRK) wins the best actor award and they give away the trophy to him.

The same sequence will also have cameos by Amitabh Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan , Hrithik Roshan , Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta . They will play themselves. The movie also has a special song in which SRK dances with Sanjay Dutt , Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan .

'Om Shanti Om' will release in the second half of 2007. Deepika Padukone is SRK's heroine in the film.

There's great news from the sets of Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om. Farah has now roped in Sridevi and Abhishek Bachchan to do cameos in the film.

The script has a track that will feature Sridevi and Abhishek Bachchan together. The story goes that Sridevi was earlier slated to feature in the lavish title track alongside Jeetendra. However, Sridevi couldn't feature in the song due to time constraints. That's when Farah decided to have her in another scene. "We love Sri and she just had to be a part of the film," says Farah. The scenes will be shot next month.

Abhishek too will have an interesting role in Om Shanti Om. Farah is yet to finalise the details as the actor has been travelling for a while. "I'm going to see Abhishek as soon as he is back," she says.

Farah had also requested Amitabh Bachchan to make an appearance in the title track of the film. But, he eventually opted out as he was extremely busy with the Abhi-Ash wedding at that time.

If that is not enough, Farah is in talks with Shakira (and this time for real) as she is yet to film two songs for Om Shanti Om. The Latino pop star has a choc-o-bloc schedule till September. The temptations of having the 'Hips don't lie' star for Om Shanti Om may cause a delay in the film's schedule. Farah intends to stick to her initial plans of wrapping the songs by August as the film will have an October-November release.

Set in Bollywood of the '70s, Om Shanti Om traces the journey of Shah Rukh Khan who starts of as a humble junior artiste and goes on to become a big film star.

October, November get hotter

This Diwali [9th November] is only getting bigger! Initially, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's SAAWARIYA was confirmed for this date. Later, news filtered in that Shah Rukh Khan is keen to release OM SHANTI OM in Diwali. And now comes the news that a keenly anticipated film, directed by a successful name, has been shifted to this date. Although the producers have yet to issue a statement to this effect, the talk in the industry has already gathered momentum.

Similarly, JODHAA AKBAR [UTV, Ashutosh Gowariker] and LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG [Yash Raj] were the two biggies slated for release in October. Now add one more biggie: Tips' RACE, directed by Abbas-Mustan. Starring Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna, the film is racing towards completion to meet the October deadline.

Om Shanti Om's crew members have realised the benefits of multi-tasking, thanks to Farah Khan. After all the great time that the crew members had on the film's sets, Farah decided to hand out roles to the film's lyricist Javed Akhtar, screenplay writer Mushtaq Sheikh, music composer Vishal Dadlani (of the Vishak-Shekhar duo), cameraman, art director, costume designer, executive producer, assistant directors, dialogue writers and costume designer. Even Shah Rukh's bodyguard has a role in the film.

Since the film happens over a few decades starting from the '70s, all the crewmembers simply portray themselves. "I really saved a lot of money!" says Farah with a laugh.

More than 50 Bollywood stars were present at a song shoot last month. The most notable absentee was Amitabh Bachchan; he didn't want to appear in a song with Shah Rukh Khan. Bobby Deol refused to dance alongside step-mother Hema Malini. But many more stars were there. A song to watch out for.
