Shanti parva has only Yudisthir showing remorse. None of the other's reactions are mentioned, and Kunti tried to console him, explaining how she tried to persuade Karna after he got indebted to Duryodhan (my words, not hers), which was what provoked Yudhis curse on all women.

Some have opined that the Pandavas may have had similar reactions. However, what flies in the face of that was that when Yudhistir resoled to retire into the forests and lead the life of an ascetic in repentance, there was strong opposition from everybody - Bhima, Arjun, Draupadi, Krishna, and IIRC, even Kunti. If they were of the same views as him, they'd have supported him and gone into exile as well. But they all strongly opposed the idea, and forced him to accept the throne.

Had Kunti not told him, then his family would have done his water rites alone, w/o Yudhi, and had Duryodhan been alive to do his funeral, he'd have done it not knowing who Karna was.

I disagree w/ the BRC depiction that Duryodhan still had a high regard for Karna when Bheeshma told him who Karna was. In fact, in the real epic, Duryodhan's last words to Ashwi was that he had done what Bheeshma, Drona AND Karna couldn't (talking about the massacre of the Pandava army). Had Duryodhan come to know about Karna's real identity, as well as his promise to Kunti, Karna would have instantly been on his hate list along w/ Bheeshma & Drona.

harsh in the sense that his body was eaten up by vultures because it wasn't cremated on time

this is what i dont want no warrior deserves this kind of treatment

whether he is cremated by yudhishtir or dury doesn't matter he should just get cremated on time rather than have his body being eaten up by vultures

Yeah, but my question to you was different. Given that you tend to prefer original Karna stories to the ones woven around him by latter day authors, I was curious as to why you want Duryodhan, as opposed to Yudisthir, doing his funeral?

So I don't think it's a deviation 4m d character sketch of Dury in d epic but a logical extrapolation.

I think what Duryodhan would have done had he known Karna's real identity would have been up in the air
