Chapter 12

Life goes on...

whether you choose to move on and take a chance in the unknown ,

or stay behind ,locked in the past,thinking of what could've been.

Dressed in a beautiful pink churidaar I looked at myself in full size mirror on wall of move-in-closet of Rey's room.My hair parting filled with vermilion, neck adored with mangalsutra, my hands covered with bangles given by Rey's mom. I was presenting the perfect picture of a newly wed daughter in law of Singhania's.

Few months back I also used to dream about my wedding like other girls of my age.I also wished to a get a beautiful Indian wedding.I wanted to perform all the pre and post rituals of Indian wedding and then live my life happily after my wedding.I got everything but not with the person with whom I dreamt all this.

Happily ever after, the term used in fairy tales.Tales in which princess waits for her prince and then after crossing many hurdles her prince comes on a white horse and whisks her off from ground and they live happily ever after.

But life is no fairy tale.

I realized it now.

This thought came crashing down on me like a storm when I lost everything from my life.The day I lost the love of my life.

When I was eight I lost my mother in an accident.At that time I was so broken that I couldn't imagine living without her but then as time passed Bhai and Papa helped me to get over the loss.

I also tried to recover as I knew they also lost their Mom and wife.So,for them I tried to behave strong but from inside I always missed her presence in my life.

But then Arjun came in my life like a knight in shining armour.He was Mr.Perfect of my life.He was the missing piece of my life.He had filled the void of my heart with his love.

God always snatches away the person from my life whom I loves the most.

First my Mom and then my Arjun.

When I started vowing dreams about our future god crashed them all in one go.

And

Today I am standing here as newly wed bride of Rey,my best friend.

A sudden knock on door pulled me out from my thoughts.I opened the door and there my mother in law was standing dressed in a beautiful cream colored saree.

Sudha:"You are looking so beautiful,beta"

She cupped my face and kissed my forehead lovingly.I smiled as she lead me out of Rey's room.

With her I got down the stairs and there everyone was gathered in living room.

I felt a rush of guilt pass through me as I saw their smiling faces directed towards me.All the people down there were so good and I felt so bad cheating them for my own selfish reasons.

My Mom in law was the sweetest lady I met after my Mom.I was so difficult to hurt her but I was helpless.I was always a coward.And now also I couldn't gather enough courage to face the truth.

I smiled as my all friends complimented me.

I was talking to Sharon when I saw Rey coming down from stair.He was dressed in a grey button down shirt and black trousers.His shirt's sleeves folded till his elbows and hair perfectly gelled.

I passed him a vibrant smile but his face was dreadful/It was like he had seen some ghost.Sudden emotions passed through his face.Shocked,painful and then emotionless.He was looking at me but for few seconds his eyes were emotionless but then he shook his head to clear his thoughts.Then looked into my eyes and passed me a smile.I wanting to behave rude I also reciprocated his smile but his hurt image was flashing in front of my eyes again and again.

Sudha:"Oh Rey!!! You are here finally. Chalo,now lets delay not the morning poojafurther"

My Mom in law said getting up from couch.

Now it was my turn to get shocked.

I looked towards Rey and saw him looking towards me with same emotions.

I was always like this between two of us.He always knows what is going through my mind.He can read me like a open book but the the case is not same in my case.

He is a mystery for me.His thoughts,his emotions.I can't predict anything by watching his face but he can easily read me inside out.I was blessed with such a best friend.I don not need any words,just my one look and he understands all I want to convey.

And now also he gave me a understanding look and was about to speak something but I held his hand and squeezed it.He shook my head in denial.He tried to convince me through his looks but I shook my head again and we both made our way to In-house mandir with all other members around.

I was standing there at kitchen door looking at my beautiful wife cum best friend.She was standing there in front of kitchen counter with a confused-scared look on her face.

Hair tucked in a messy bun at her nape,dupatta knotted around her waist and biting her nails in nervousness she was presenting the cutest image.

I remember In morning I was so excited to see her in my selected dress but as I descended the stairs my all excitement turned into disappointment.I saw her standing there in some other dress.That moment was so painful that I couldn't help.My pain and disappointment was clearly visible on my face.And it was the same moment her eyes fell on me.I didn't wanted to show her my fallen face so recovering fast I passed her a smile and she too reciprocated it with a hesitant smile.

And then Mom too noticed me and smiled at me,her that teasing smile.I turned my face away in embarrassment as morning's incident flashed in front of my eyes.

Sensing my discomfort she got up from couch and acted like she noticed me now only.

Sudha:"Oh Rey!!! You are here finally. Chalo,now lets not delay the morning poojafurther"

She said as I stood beside Taani.I was shocked to know that Mom was referring towards mine and Taani's first pooja.

I looked sideways and Taani's face was drained of color.

As I was about to explain it to Mom ,Taani squeezed my hand in between hers and shook her head in denial to stop me.

We both made our way to mandir with other members but my mind was clouded with the thoughts of day when my family for the first time met Taani.

Flashback~

Rey and his family were standing inside the premises of Mandir to meet Taani's family.Keeping Taani's Badi Maa's preference in mind they decided to meet here.

They were standing out from the main temple where Krishna Ji's statue was kept.There were green plants and grass all around the main temple.The whole place was enclosed in between small boundaries.And from front long stairs were going down.

He saw as Taani appeared from those stairs along with her family.Dressed in a beautiful white churidaar she was looking out of this world.

She came and greeted his parents by joining her hand.

Taani:"Namaste"

She said in her sweet voice.Rey too greeted her Papa and Badi Maa.He hugged Swayam and exchanged pleasantries. Her other relatives were not present today.

They all started talking and introducing themselves.He too got involved in a conversation with Swayam about their Dance Academy.

He started looking around while talking to Swayam and then he noticed that Taani was not present there.

He didn't told anyone as he didn't wanted them to worry unnecessarily and himself started looking for her around.He was still angry with her for her silly decision of getting married but her safety was much more important than his anger.

He was about to call others to inform about Taani's absence when he saw her sitting at far end of mandir on some wooden bench.

He shied in relief and after relaxing himself started going towards her.

She was sitting there staring at the valley beside Mandir. There were no traces of tears on her cheeks but her eyes were filled with water. She was not moving but just sitting there away from everyone.

Rey:"You love bothering me,Isn't it?"

He said as he sat down beside her.She looked at him surprised but then again started looking at front.This time a smile adoring her lips.

Taani:"I am sorry"

She said with a smile on her lips.She knew he was just pulling her leg but she too loves to irritate him by asking for forgiveness.

Rey:"You should be."

He said continuing their little act and then both became silent.They both were looking in front not wanting to break the beautiful silence.

Taani:"Can I ask you for something?"

She said turning towards him suddenly.

Rey:"I'll ask Mom to re-schedule this meeting elsewhere"

He replied and she looked at him with open mouth.She tried to form a sentence but was far beyond shock.

Taani:"How do you..I mean ...I didn't...ahhh Rey ?"

She said frustrated with his power to understand her unspoken words.

Rey:"You should have seen your face.From the time you entered inside temple you were behaving like you are in some war with your Krishna Ji"

He said making fun of her.She made a face at him but then suddenly became sad again.

Taani:"He snatched away my love ones from me. Papa says I am Krishna Ji's favorite child but still he did this to me.I hate him,Rey"

She said hugging him and crying on his chest.Rey patted her head lovingly .

Rey:"Its okay Taani.You can hate him.After all he is your Krishna Ji.But you don't cry. Don't give him satisfaction of hurting you.Show him that you are strong and you'll not break down."

He said explaining her in her language only.

She kept hugging him and he kept sitting there supporting her.

Flashback Ends~

Taani:"Rey what are you doing there?"

She shouted from kitchen.With her voice I came back from my thoughts.She gestured me to enter inside and I obliged.

Rey:"Hmmm So what have you planned to make?"

I asked as I saw her doing something on her phone.

Taani:"Kheer"

She said searching Recipe on her phone.I snatched her phone away from her hands.

Rey:"I'll help you.No need to search for Recipe"

I said taking out Rice from cupboard.

Taani:"What the...Rey it's not Maggie but Kheer.You can't make it.Let me check on Net"

She said taking her phone back.

Rey:"For your kind information I know how to make Kheer.I learnt it from Mom after coming from Ridhima Di's wedding."

I said pouring milk in a big utensil.

Taani:"Oh.It's your favorite too.I tho love Kheer but I never tried to learn to make it"

I smiled at her.Only I knew how I managed to learn it.

Rey:"I'll teach you.And By the way Kheer is not my favorite, I prefer moong dal halwa over kheer"

I informed her with a smile and then started working on kheer.She sat down on kitchen counter watching me working.

Rey:"Its done,finally"

I said as I poured the dish in a bowl.
