Its not very far from Mysore. There's a story about Kanakadasa a very pious devotee who gets Krishna darshan through a opening in the wall during a critical circumstance. Even today everyone gets the darshan of Udupi Krishna through Kanakanakhindi (named after Kanakadasa).
