Chapter 2
In the coming two weeks Taani avoided the gang, and they avoided her. The anger was there from both sides; Taani was angry with their hostile behaviour while they were angry at her aloofness towards their dance routine.
"Tomorrow is NDC aur Taani abhi tak routine dekhne bhi nai aayi,"Simmi said worried.
Vishakha looked at her, "Forget it na...who cares...agar usse aana hai toh aayegi or else we are good without her too."
Swayam who was witnessing could not speak anything. If he took Taani's side they would get mad and also if he took gang's side Taani would be more hurt. He remained quiet but he was also a bit upset that his sister didn't come see the routine.
"Guys, forget it...we have to wake up early tomorrow for the competition...let's go to sleep." The gang all went to sleep in their respective dorms since the event was hosted in another college.
Rey stood outside on the balcony of his and Swayam's dorm wondering different thoughts. He felt a hand on his shoulder, "Kya hua Rey?"
"Kuch nahi Swayam...bas soch raha hoon ke Taani kitna badal gayi hai," he said looking out at the sky, "I mean itni rude or itni hyper toh kabhi nahi hua karti thi...what changed?"
Swayam sighed, "I don't know. Maybe the tension and plus the gang's behaviour...I don't even see her at home anymore. I call her and talk to her but she usually just talks about random stuff like food."
Rey had a smile on his face because he was aware of how much Taani loved food...she lived to eat.
"Kher...tu yeh sab kyun soch raha hai...tune toh breakup kar liya haina uss ke saath," Swayam asked.
Rey turned towards him as he made his way to the bed, "Haan...but that doesn't mean that I gave up caring about her Swayam. I broke up because she was a completely different Taani. After becoming a part of NDC she became more blunt, rude and hyper. It felt like I didn't even know who she was...I was lost and I thought that we needed a break. I thought that maybe our relationship was putting more stress on her."
Swayam nodded, "I understand."
The next morning, the team was ready and Taani was filling out whatever necessary formalities that needed to be completed.
"Okay guys, these are your badges and they need to be on at all times. I talked to the manager and your performance will be last so you guys have a lot of time on hand," saying this Taani left the green room to make a call.
"Mr. Khurana...please understand that I can't come right now. Please...okay thank you. I will reach there in a week at 8."
Taani sat down and closed her eyes trying to calm the pounding headache that was occurring. She was being drowned in work and feeling like there was no way out. The girl who hated the sight of business was now being asked to take care of a multi-million rupees company. Only her krishnaji knows how she managed.
The gang was no less than a riot when around her, plus this Mr. Khurana was giving her a hard time as well. If they don't sign this deal, Shekhawat Group of Industries will have more debt and then they would never be able to recover.
She took a small nap wishing that she could share her tensions with her brother. Swayam and the gang were unaware of the fact that she was handling Shekhawat Group of Industries now, and that made her life more difficult. But, she had to hide it from everyone because no one in the media or market knew that she will become the new CEO. If they found out that an inexperienced person was taking over, their stocks would have been affected severely.
The D3 team finished their performance and also won the competition but with just a fraction of a mark more. They were a bit astonished that they had such high level competitors but were glad that they won. As they were returning back to the green room they heard Taani yelling at someone.
"If he can't figure out where to plug the wire then fire him, I don't have time for such useless people."
Hearing this Vicky muttered, "God...she is so rude. Bechara...bina waje fire kardiya."
Rey who had heard Taani's yelling was also getting angry at her, "She is so ruthless!"
"Lekin yeh fire kisse kar rahi hai?" Rinni wondered out loud to which the whole gang became surprised.
"Yeh...who is Taani firing?" Sharon asked now looking at Swayam.
Swayam looked as the whole gang stared at him, "Aaaree...mujhe kaise pata...don't look at me. But forget it naa...hoga koi college mein or something...come let's change."
After the competition Taani had congratulated the team asked to see Swayam to the side, "Bhai I need to talk to you and it can't wait."
"Haan Taani bolo...what happened?"
"Woh...I have found a good MBA program in a Delhi University and I think it is best I move there," she completed and her brother stood in silence taking everything in.
"Are you sure about this Taani? Leaving all of us?" Swayam asked hoping she would reconsider.
"I am sure bhai...I...I think this is a great opportunity," Swayam then knew that he couldn't force Taani to stay back and he had no reason to because she was going to be safe with his mom and family anyway.
"Okay...but you need to tell me everything in detail." Taani nodded smiling and started explaining where she is going and what things she has arranged.
"NDC was coming and so I asked Tauji to make arrangements because I didn't want to get you all worried and in a knot," she ended.
Swayam gave a small smile, still upset that his baby sister was leaving him in a few days.
"Oh come on bhai, I am still in the same country and I will have the whole family in Delhi. Cheer up," she said as she tugged his arm and gave him a side hug.
"I know...ab chal..."
They went home and Taani started her packing. She only had a few days and those were going to be hectic as well due to the exams.
The exam hustle bustle had left everyone on a tight schedule. The results were going to come today and Taani was going to leave in the evening as well. But, in all this she did not talk to the gang but she was sure that her bhai would, so she didn't have much to worry about.
"Oh shit! I passed with 60%!" Vicky yelled jumping with happiness.
Bharat shoved him aside, "Abe...baju hat...baaki sab ko bhi toh dekhne de."
"Nil mera bhi result types deklo na," Aashi requested.
"Haan...mera, Simmi aur Rinni ka bhi," Vishakha said.
Nil recited their results; all passing in the 60s to 70s zone. Meanwhile the crowd lessened and the gang were the only ones left. Sharon, Swayam and Rey had also came but Taani stood to the side texting Mihir and waiting for everyone to be done.
"OMG! Swayam great job yaar...you passed with 86%!" Sharon beamed in delight as she read his results. The gang was shocked as he did so well and congratulated him.
As they stood there Swayam saw Taani busy with the phone so he asked loudly, "Taani, you want me to see the results?" The gang directed their attention towards her but Taani didn't look up, "Haan bhai...go ahead."
"Taannni...98%!" Taani's and the gang's head looked up as Swayam announced the results. Her bhai hugged her tightly while telling her how proud he was of her and how much he will miss her.
"Aww bhai come on...I told you I'm just a few states away," she said while pulling his cheeks.
"Taani...kaha ja lahi hai?" Amar asked.
Swayam and Taani turned towards the gang who stood confused staring at them.
"Swayam...Taani kaha jaane ki baat kar rahi thi?" Rey asked.
Swayam's face was in a big O, "OH SHIT! I forgot to tell you guys! I...shit shit shit!"
Realizing that her bhai probably forgot due to exams, rehearsals and helping her pack at home, Taani decided to tell the gang herself.
"I'm going to Delhi to finish off my Masters program," she said.
"WHAT?! But...you didn't tell us!" Sharon yelled.
"I know...I thought bhai must have said something," Taani clarified.
Rey then asked in a bit of anger, "Kab jaa rahi ho?"
Taani in a low voice answered, "Aaj sham ko."
The gang did not know how to react, should they be happy that the hitler was leaving? Or should they be sad that one friend was not going to be there?
"Well, accha hai...you got a good opportunity," Vicky said happily.
Taani smiled, "Yeah. And after my results I will also get a scholarship there."
"But mein apko miss types karungi," Aashi said in a pouty face and Taani said she would too.
"Accha guys, lets get out of here...we need to get home since Taani is leaving in a few hours," Swayam voiced and everyone eagerly went to the car.
As the gang settled in Swayam's house Taani got a call from the office once again.
"Mihir what the hell does Tauji pay you for?! Tumse itna bhi kaam nahi hota...I told you to tell Mr.Khurana that I will be there at 8!"
The gang heard this from outside and Vishakha made an annoyed face, "She won't change. I am glad she is going, atleast I won't have to hear her voice again."
Rey was becoming furious by the minute. First off, she was yelling at people and second she didn't even bother informing anyone that she was going until today.
He was pissed off.
Unknown to them though, Taani apologized to Mihir before ending her call.
The time passed as Taani got ready to leave while the gang talked and did masti like always. The truth was most of them were only looking at her and judging her from her anger. They were delusional in thinking that they will not miss someone like Taani who usually yells at them.
Taani was eagerly waiting for Rey to say something, so before she left she asked him to help her put the bags into the car.
As he was loading she asked, "Kuch kehna tha aapko?" He looked back surprised but since he was still mad at her, he shook his head in a no. "Nahin. Kuch nahi kehna tha," Taani's hope died and she nodded with a frown.
She turned and called Swayam and the gang down.
"I guess this is it guys...hopefully I see you all soon." The gang came and hugged her, each one bidding her farewell. She turned to Swayam who was on a full drama mode and hugged him tightly. They had their complete Bollywood moment before Taani pulled apart.
She entered the car after shaking hands with Rey, "It was nice knowing you Reyansh Singhania," she thought silently.
As she sat down to go to Delhi, all she thought about was Rey. Had they grown so apart that they couldn't even bid goodbye to one another properly. He just held out his hand and told her to have a safe trip. Had he really forgotten her? It seemed so, since he didn't even make any efforts to stop her or say anything.
Today, she felt worse than she did during the day of their breakup because back then she knew that Rey still loved her. It was just time and changes that drifted them apart but today she felt as if he didn't love her and they were complete strangers. Taani silently cried as she realized how it felt to be heartbroken for the first time in her life.
As Taani began to settle down in her new college, the gang was noticing her absence. The new GS, AGS, CS and ACS were not only rude but completely disregarding them.
"Yeh rehearsal hall humara hai...hum iskeliye college ko pay bhi karte hai," Rey explained to the new GS.
The new GS smirked, "Haan toh? Tumne isse kharid toh nahi liya na...you were only renting it. And now, just like people throw tenants out, I am asking all of you to get out. This hall will be only given to you during the afternoon...we have other events in the evening where we need this place."
"Listen! You can't do that. I will talk to VP sir," Sharon said and walked towards the door but stopped.
"It's of no use Ms. Rai Prakash because we already took his permission. You all were given the hall because no one used it. But, the college needs it now. Also, since we want to promote other programs and careers...dance will be on the last priority list. Now...I have other things to do. You have an hour to get out of here," he warned before walking out.
"Abe yaar...isko GS kisne banaya," Bharat complained.
Simmi who was packing her stuff then asked, "Ab hum practice kahan karenge?"
Knowing that Taani's room was now completely empty Swayam offered that they have practices held there.
The gang agreed as Taani's room was big and spacious enough for them to hold rehearsals there.
"Neha ko Taani ki bohat yaad aati hai," Neha said as she looked at Taani's empty room.
Sharon agreed, "Yeah, she was always helping people as a GS. Aur ab dekho...student council ne college ka kya haal bana ke rakha hai..."
The phone suddenly rang and Neha picked it up as the rest of the gang was outside and only Swaron were present but they were lifting the equipment.
"Hello? Bhai? Aap...aap kuch bol kyun nahi rahe?" The voice on the other side wondered.
Swayam jumped near the phone, "TAANI! How are you? College kaisa that? Aur tum apna khyal toh rakhti ho na?"
Taani giggled, "Bhai! Aap mujhe Jodhpur Express bulatey hain par aap bhi kuch kam nahi hai. Slow down! Mein fit and fine hoon like always, apna khyal rakhti hoon I promise. College is beautiful, Delhi ki top university joh hai. Ab aur kuch?"
Swayam smiled, "Aur kuch nahi. Kisi kaam se phone kiya tha?"
"Aree! Haan...dekho aapke questions mein toh bolna hi bhool gayi...jaane se pehle meine aapki watch repair mein di thi woh fix hogayi hogi...usse pick up kar lena. I got a new chef for you but aap uska pehla interview le lena...he is coming tomorrow morning. Aur yaad se please, turn off the A/C at night warna you forget and then in the morning you always catch a cold. Bas...ab hogya."
"Promise...sab kuch karlunga."
