CHAPTER 53

"hi honey!" nagesh greeted his wife sweetly but yashoda turned her back on him. "she must be still mad at me." nagesh sighed to himself. yashoda could be really difficult if she wanted to. yashoda was irritated at nagesh, he was alaways throwing tantrums & expecting her to take it lightly. today she wasn't going to give in to him at all. nagesh walked over & hugged her tightly. but yashoda didn't respond, she stood still, stiff as a board.

nagesh tightened his hold her snuggling closer to her but yashoda still turned her face away from him. realising that his wife was still very mad, nagesh took the parcel & unwrapped a beautiful seashell necklace from it. "look what I got you. a pretty necklace, I think it'll look gorgeous on you!" he lovingly dangled it in front of her face. "do you like it?" he asked her nervously.

"no. I don't like it." yashoda replied coldly. nagesh's shoulders slumped as he saw the icy look in her eyes. he placed the necklace on the dressing table & went into the bathroom to take a long shower. yasohda watched her husband out of the corner of her eyes & after she made sure he wasn't watching, she walked over to the dressing table. taking the necklace into her hand, she admired it from various angles. the necklace was beautiful.

small seashells set in an elegant pattern & they sparkled under the bright light of the room. "wow!" yashoda gazed at the different dazzling colours of the necklace. she put it around her neck & tried to clasp it but couldn't reach the hook. "here.. let me help you.." a husky voice sounded in her ears. nagesh had been watching his wife silently & was smiling at her cuteness.

he took the necklace from her hands & clasped it around her neck. he then admired her reflection in the mirror. "you look beautiful." he whispered in her ear gently. yashoda didn't respond & looked away not meeting his eyes. nagesh turned her around so that yashoda faced him. "are you still mad at me?" he enquired mildly. yashoda looked up at him, meeting his eyes & smiled slightly. "how can I when you've bribed me with this necklace?" yasohda teased him cutely.

"but sometimes I feel like just murdering you nagesh!!" she started hitting him real hard. they continued laughing & teasing each other for a few minutes. they then sat on the bed & nagesh rested his head on yashoda's shoulder. letting out a long breath he related the entire incident of his mother to yashoda. "we must do the best we can to bring her memory back." yashoda announced determinedly to her husband. "yes we must. we must." nagesh agreed, shutting his eyes in a silent prayer.

james & priya were rushing to the hospital. they didn't even have time to say goodbye to aryan or meneka. after aryan had stormed off angrily, james & priya had sat in silence. the shrill ringing of james's cellphone jolted both of them out of their postures. james answered the call & his face changed as he heard the other person speaking rapidly. "mr james? please come fast to Leelavathi hospital. a mr neel here is going to attempt suicide & he insists on meeting you & ms priya. hurry!" the line went dead.

"james.. what happened????? why are you so pale??" priya shook james & yelled at him. "neel.. he is going to commit suicide.." james stammered incoherently. "what??" priya stood stunned for a moment then ran out of the house with james at her heels.

james weaved through the heavy evening traffic as fast as he could. they reached the hospital 20 minutes later & saw that a huge crowd had gathered because of the commotion. "excuse me sir.. I'm james & this is priya.. neel wanted to meet us.. where is he? can we meet him?" james asked a policeman who was gurading the entrance.

"I'm afraid not. unless you want to go up there." he pointed to the highest floor of the hospital. priya's heart came into her mouth as she saw neel sitting on the windowsill of one of the rooms on the topmost story of the building. "oh my god.." someone gasped beside priya & she saw it was james who was staring at neel with an equally shocked expression.

I hope Neel will change for the better after his drama. But if anything untowardly happens, Priya mustn't blame herself.

Wow! beautiful chapter. Yashoda and Nagesh were fighting and making up soooo cute. This Neel needs some therapy, counseling and everything... I don't want him to commit suicide too. Poor guy had very rough and bad childhood...

So Neel is all talk and no guts. He is such a coward that he is attempting suicide. Good chapter Leena. Thank you.

CHAPTER 54

james reached out & squeezed priya's hand in an assuring manner as if to say everything would be fine but inside he was just as worried as she was. priya's hand was clammy & sweaty. she seemed really nervous. "lord.. I hope he doesn't jump.." she whispered a prayer. "sir.. sir.. we need to get up there! please! neel might jump if we don't go up to meet him!!" priya pleaded with the policeman who was guarding the hospital entrance.

he took one look at her tear streaked face & let her in without another word. james went in along with her & they both rode the lift to the tenth floor in silence. as the lift door opened, james & priya were ushered out by a bevy of hassled looking policemen. "are you james & priya? come this way please." a lanky policemen herded them towards a corner room. he sent the rest of the men on duty away & spoke to james and priya in hushed tones.

"please be careful.. neel is extremely unstable & migh try to harm you both as well as himself. take care!" he whispered to them & sent them into the room. they both found neel sitting on the window sill, dangerously close to falling. "neel.. neel.. why are you doing this?" priya asked him slowly as she & james advanced closer to him. neel didn't answer immediately. "don't you know priya.. don't you know why I am doing this?" he asked in an almost inaudible tone.

"no neel. I don't.." priya replied with a tinge of exasperation in her voice. "it's all because of you!! you have driven me to suicide!" neel's voice became loud with anger. he turned to face priya with a glare. "how dare you say.." james went towards neel in anger when priya stopped him. "no james! let me deal with it!" priya hissed at him. james shot her a look & nodded his agreement. "be careful.." he whispered to her before she went towards neel.

"neel.. neel.. listen to me please.. I'm really sorry if I have hurt you in any way but believe me, I didn't do it purposely. please come down from the windowsill.. please.." priya begged softly. "why should I listen to you?? all women are the same. my mother's actions hurt me when I was young & now you are doing the exact same thing to me priya.. I have no choice but to end my life before it causes me more misery." neel's voice was icy cold.

"neel.. please.." priya begged him yet again but neel didn't budge from the windowsill. that's when priya lost it. "okay, so you want to die right? fine! I'll die along with you!" she climbed up to the windowsill & planted herself beside neel. "priya.. what are you doing? get down from there this instant!" james rushed over to where priya was seated but she waved him away. neel was observing priya intently analysing on whether she was serious or not. "yes neel! I am serious!" priya replied as if she read neel's mind.

"why are you doing this to me?? I just don't understand.." neel looked confused. "neel.. please try to understand me! I was never in love with you. I have always loved james & only him. you are a sweet guy neel & you deserve a girl who'll love you wholeheartedly. I'm not the one for you.. try to understand.." priya explained to neel patiently. "but.. but you seemed so happy with me.. " neel sputtered in shock. "no neel.. I admit I was happy with you but I'm happier with james. that's a fact." priya replied simply. neel gaped at her open-mouthed. "so all the times you spent with me, you were not in love with me?" he asked priya yet again.

"no.. I was not.." priya tone was edged with impatience. "then why did you lie to me priya? why? why? why???" neel shook priya hard & in the tussle priya lost her balance & slipped off the windowsill with a scream. james stood frozen for a moment as he saw priya disappear from his view suddenly. she had fallen off the ledge.. neel had pushed her off the window ledge.. james rushed forward to drage neel back & give him a few punches when he realised that neel was bent over & seemed to be holding onto something. "or someone.." james breathed out as he saw priya hanging for her dear life & neel holding onto one of her hands.

"PRIYA!!" james ran forward & caught hold of her other hand. "help me.." she croaked weakly, her face was ashen with fear. "no don't worry.. let me help you up.." james assured her confidently. "no! I'll help priya up! we don't need your help!" neel pushed james away. james had enough of neel's nonsense. "look here neel! this woman means more than my life to me, I'm not letting her die at a hands of a madman like you. now get away before I punch the daylights out of you!" he growled a threat. neel shrank away & looked away but didn't release his hold on priya.

james heaved & hauled with all his might but he just couldn't pull priya up alone. after a few minutes of struggling, james gave up & he slumped on the windowsill with a pathetic expression on his face. "let's try together." a voice came from beside him & james found neel beside him. he had gotten down from the ledge & was standing beside james. james nodded & they both managed to haul priya to safety. she collapsed on them sighing with relief. "thank you guys.." was all she could manage to speak. james went over & put his arms around her & priya basked in the warmth of his embrace for a while till she noticed with dismay that neel had disappeared from the room.
