But words should be backed by actions and secularism should not remain on paper only. If the state blatantly discriminates based on religion and shows favouritism towards the minorities, what's the use. It's better to have a state with a religion than a pseudo-secular state.

I completely hear you and believe you for having known you over 500 posts :) 👏. I am once again questioning majority. Just as certain political parties are being partial to certain minorities, several political leaders are instigating majorities, via issues like the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
If one really cares for Hindus and their life in India, so much more could be done. Ram Mandir is not even symbolic to me .. See where I am coming from? My love and respect for my religion is beyond that mandir there.

Ofcourse favoritism is hurtful and wrong. Ofcourse one should speak against it. But what's your motto here in demolishing mosque? Aren't you ( not you in particular, but the individual) just being one of them 😛

👏...

With so much suppressing of the Hindus, don't be shocked to find Hindus in the minority...I wonder if the Hindus would still say ' chalta hai'🤔...

We are not a secular state till we have reservations based on religion and caste. In a secular state everyone is considered equal but if there is a discrimination based on quota system in our country then upper caste Hindus like us have the right to feel superior. It is not our fault, govt. is making us.

Stop reservation and nip the evil of castism and minority cry in it's bud.

Since we are talking about it, something I wanted to share 😉

offcourse from wiki

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;
and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION. [1]

The preamble is not a part of the Constitution of India as it is not enforceable in a court of law. However, the Supreme Court has, in the case of 'Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala', recognized that the Preamble is a part of the Constitution and may be used to interpret ambiguous areas of the Constitution where differing interpretations present themselves. However, the Preamble is useful as an interpretive tool only if there is an ambiguity in the article itself and should not be treated as a rights bestowing part of the Constitution.

An interesting side note concerns the words "SOCIALIST" and SECULAR in the preamble. The original drafting used the words "SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC". The two additional words "SOCIALIST" and SECULAR were introduced by the controversial 42nd amendment. The amendment was pushed through by Indira Gandhi in 1976, when she had dictatorial powers. A committee under the chairmanship of Sardar Swaran Singh recommended that this amendment be enacted after being constituted to study the question of amending the constitution in the light of past experience.

for fun's sake 😉

Many of friends and family that actually support the Ran mandir temple issue actually feel the same way about secularism. It is just that very few own to be that. 😳 so kudos and then i see where the passion to build the temple is coming from.

BINGO Maya! And hence I have questioned the constitution in every post.

Pulling down a monument to rebuild temple will never HEAL the HURT hearts. In fact, it will hurt fresh hearts. There will be something else in the name of something else every decade.
Just as I have serious faith-problem in the way Indian states are so-called Unified, and they way we are so-called united in diversity, pardon me for not believing that even during one heart-beat 😆😆.. PSEUDO-SECULARISM is making us agitated and we are channelizing those feelings in acts that affect lives of common people from all religions.

I don't blame those Hindus who feel unfavored and I don;t blame several members of those minorities (our honorable president being one of those 👏) who get dragged into political storms that neither strenghthen and unify Hindus, nor deal with our REAL hurt issues.

Raksha 🤗 , you surprised me today, since Gandhiji's teachings would surely expect one to be forgiving and guide one to rise oneself above these petty destructive activities. It is not cowardly, as some may call it. IMO, it is clearly rising ABOVE to let go what happened 500 years ago, and TACKLE the PRESENT state with DIGNITY and FIGHT for the RIGHT CAUSE. I'd love to hear from you on this, if you like 😳.

oh, that's the philosophical hangover from the gandhian/ congress days. it's actually a dirty word in the west. sort of promises everyone in india a "way of life" that various brethren in other countries do their damndest to deny to their own respective minorities.😊

You may think about it as rising above petty issues, but what happens when the other party thinks you're doing it because you're cowardly and continues doing their nonsense. How many times should one ignore or forgive or forget??
