First of all - I'm happy to engage in a DISCUSSION. That's what this competition is about.

BUT if you want to prove a point (that I have been inconsistent - lenient with Sonu and strict with Shankar) then I'm not interested in ARGUING.

OK with that out of the way...

Yes I noticed ALL the high pitch/powerful throw portions of the song. Taking ALL those sequences into account, I gave the song an extra 2.5. Without those sequences it would be a very simple tune. Slow, simple tunes are great composition-wise, but they aren't very hard to sing!

Beyond the high notes/high power, the song did not really touch me - it wasn't as emotive as it could be. (The lyrics might have something to do with that.) And there weren't any other difficult elements or techniques employed.

The ONLY thing that impressed me were the high pitches which WERE flawlessly done. BUT THAT'S JUST ONE THING.

As for Sonu, as my review points out, he has more added elements:

1. a unique, breathy tonal quality has been employed
2. more nuances and exemplary voice control (which are particularly difficult due to difficult tune and breathy voice)
3. more difficult metre and finishing notes in the main verse
4. excellent expression

Which is why I wanted to give Sonu an 8.5 (i.e one more point than Shankar)

Very good decision Brahmabul! I'm regretting becoming a judge - I thought there would be healthy debate and discussion but the atmosphere has become too adversarial for me.

Mein apne jokes ki saath hi bhala tha! 😆

You said something about parts being repeated and sung well isn't special. Well, first of all, in every song the main lines are repeated and mostly the song is repeated at least once.

2nd, I remember when Mahalaxmi sang "Har Taraf Tu Hi Tu", she sang some difficult high pitches perfect, and the same technique was repeated several times as well. Then you were all praise and gave it a high score. Now its the "oh it was repeated" . 👎🏼 Despite Shankar's high pitches being even better and higher notes.

So every song has repetetion.

Most those points you made could be said for Shankar as well. But there is no doubt the sequences Shankar sang were more difficult than anyone this round had to sing. Including Sonu Nigam, you can't show me 1 sequence that was more difficult than those 3 lines in the opening I pointed out for Shankar. It was NOT just 1 line. Line 1 required power, Line 2 was a high pitch line, and Line 3 was even higher. It was remarkable!

@ssk bhai

let's continue our discussion by PMing each other - these debates create a bad atmosphere on the threads.

all the IF's MkMM threads should be about healthy discussion, enjoying good songs and, most of all, FUN!

for now,
tan tana tan tan tan tara
jhagda mat karna dobara!

I apologize for my comments earlier. Looks like I went too far and was kind of upset to see Shankar Mahadevan receiving such low marks.

I'll try to be more calm in the future.

But I'll say it again, no one has sung a more difficult song than this in this Round. And it was done flawlessly.

Yet this is receiving low marks. 😆

I also think some of the judges need to leave their personal likes/dislikes witih the singers behind when judging them. Won't say any names.

A bit of firewords is what we need, if not , it becomes so boring.👏👏
I think you did a pretty good job.

In that case...what 2 male voices singing are you talking about? Did you even listen to the right song? There was a chorus singing in 1 insignificant line. That's it. Shankar Mahadevan did all the difficult and meaningful lines by himself.

So why the 9?

Frankly I could not tell which parts had been sung by which singer.
But if KK had only done some insignificant parts then Shakarji deserves a 10.
