It certainly wasn't Arjuna who gave Abhimanyu the courage and the knowledge of right from wrong. The Upapandavas preferred to live with her than with Dhrishtadyumna. She was a staunch ally to Panchali.

Very well said! 👏

I admire Subhadra for the qualities mentioned.. by you!

Had her grandson didn't heard somebody else s grandson would have heard but the tale still would have become a legend. Mahabharata became legend because of what it was and because of other important personalities who contributed to this epic not because of subdhara

Obviously it was on a lighter note, even without Janmayey hearing it, Vyas had recorded the event. There would have been other versions of it anyway. It's just that we are unfortunate to have lost most of them excluding this one, but even without the written text, the story is a part of every Indian life

@Deepika

Don't sell Vyasa short. He wrote plenty about Kunti, Satyavati, Devayani, Sharmishta... women who were crucial to the plot.

MBh is 1.5 MILLION words long. There simply wasn't room for more. That doesn't mean Subhadra wasn't great. She didn't drive the plot, that's all

Subhadra was great but didn't have much role to play in the epic

Draupadi's importance in the epic is not because he was Vyasa's favourite. If you consider this as history and not literature, then there's no reason for Vyasa to make her more important than she actually was. She was the reason why Pandavas actually managed to survive and got back their empire. SHE was the one for whom Dhritarashtra freed them. She gave valuable advices to Yudhishthir.

Of course she is important. There is no MB without her.

we the readers, watchers, listeners, the audience of the epic have favourites.

Someone's is Krishna, some have arjun, some have yudhishtir, some bhima, some karna, some duryodhan, some have eklavya, some have subhadra as favourite

Mine is Draupadi.

But please note: Divine or not divine Vyasa himself had absolutely no favourites.

and I can say this with guarantee, because inspite of all the whitewashing and later interpolations and stupid TV serials and ridiculous fan fictions. We are able to find flaws and mistakes of every single charachter in the epic. Including our favourites. Though we ignore them, deny them or justify them. They are there, visible to everyone....

No one in centuries has been able to cover them up completely...

That is why I say again Vyasa did not have any favourite charachter. Not even his son Vidur, the only guy with clean slate in the entire epic..

So Vyasa did not do any injustice to subhadra....she was a good woman. A kind and helpful friend. A good mother. But that was all her role in the epic was.

These attributes by themselves are awesome and deserve all the praise.

But the epic had a bigger story going on where Draupadi and Pandavas and Krishna and Duryodhan and Karna had more things to do..

And amongst all the men Draupadi stood out as woman, and inspite of being a woman for her qualities of intelligence, knowledge, perseverance and pursuit of justice.

Her presence does not take anything away from Subhadra and Subhadra's presence doesnt take anything away from her.
