| When I met the creative head and heard the narration, I was intrigued even further. I asked her to confirm with Ekta Kapoor if she had me in mind for the character of Ramola or Shaina Sikand (the eldest bahu of the house). I told my husband the role seemed challenging but if I was required to work 30 days a month from dawn to dusk, I'd rather not do it. I did not want to work at the cost of spending quality time with the family. But he urged me to wind up all my other work and concentrate on this role. He told me I had played my cards wrong by taking up stupid roles after Nache Mayuri, and that this was the 'best role ever.' For me, personifying Ramola Sikand is almost like a rebirth. For so many years, I played a sister, bhabhi and the Farida Jalal kind of roles. After some time, I began to wonder if I was asking for too much in wanting a role of substance. I had almost resigned myself to playing inconsequential roles. It took Ekta Kapoor change all that. Today, I have earned the name, fame, money and recognition I have always yearned for. |
