Rohit Roy humbled by Rice Plate success
Actor Rohit Roy's directorial debut, Rice Plate that features as one of the short stories in this week released, Dus Kahaniyaan has been unanimously appreciated and that's left the bad boy humbled. An ecstatic Rohit shared his joy with us.
"I am extremely happy that my first work as a director has been appreciated so much and from all quarters be it critics or audiences and even my friends. All have liked Rice Plate. I am also overjoyed because an experimental film like this has worked to some extent. But the biggest joy for me is that I managed to live up to Sanjay Gupta my producer and my friend's faith in me to direct my first film for him," says Rohit.
It has been an eventful year for Rohit with Shootout At Lokhandwala doing good business followed by Jhalak Dikhla Jaa on television being a success too and now Rice Plate. "I frankly don't know how to react. I feel all these are the outcome of all the years when I worked hard a lot but I never got to see any substantial success. I never had a laid back attitude towards my work even if majority of it was for television. I gave it my all. I am a firm believer in the fact that when your time is right, all things start falling in your place," the actor turned director adds.
Rohit had a bad boy tag attached to him so does he feel it has been wiped out with Rice Plate? "I don't know whether a tag of a ladies man, a charmer or a bad boy is attached to me but people close to me know that I am a family man. They all know that the most important things in my life are my mother, my wife and my child. But let me admit that after Rice Plate's arrival I am experiencing a new found respect. People are surprised that a first timer like me could extract such good performances from talented actors like Naseersaab and Shabanaji and that I have made a sensitive film based on communal discord. I am feeling content," Rohit admits.
About his future plans, Rohit reveals, "I am working on making a full length feature film now. Also the set of stories for Dus Kahaniyaan's sequel titled Aur Dus Kahaniyaan are being finalized. Once they are decided, I am sure Sanjay Gupta will assemble all of us who directed Dus Kahaniyaan and give us the options to choose our stories to direct, just like he did last time."
