The reason why writers want comments is not because they want their egos stroked nor is it because they need the assurance that whatever we write is good. Mostly, we are novice writers who just want to make sure that we are on the right track. When people say they enjoyed a chapter or didn't enjoy one, it makes us hone our skills. Also, a single heartfelt line saying 'hey, I really enjoyed your story. It was awesome' even at the end of a story does make all the difference. Otherwise, how do we know that so many people have read a story?
