CHAPTER 2:

As Arjun's words escaped his lips, the entire CID team stood there in shock. They had been expecting a more experienced person to be the new A.C.P., and Arjun's young appearance took them by surprise. Riya, in particular, was taken aback and wondered why she had not been informed about this development. However, Pradyuman quickly regained his composure and extended a warm welcome to Arjun.
Pradyuman: "Welcome to the team, Arjun."
Arjun nodded respectfully and replied, "Dhanyavaad, sir" (Thank you, sir). He then turned his attention towards the rest of the team, but before he could say anything, Riya stepped forward with a mix of astonishment and curiosity.
Riya: "Arjun... umm, Arjun Sir? Is that really you?"
Arjun took a step closer, mischief glinting in his eyes, and replied playfully, "Kya hua? Mujhe dekh ke acchi nahi lagi?" (What happened? Don't you like seeing me?)
The rest of the team watched silently, surprised by the sudden change in Arjun's demeanor, which had become more relaxed and casual. Riya, still trying to process the situation, couldn't help but respond, her disbelief evident in her voice, "Haan, acchi lagi. Par main yeh poochh rahi thi ki aap yahan kaise?" (Yes, I liked seeing you. But I was asking how come you are here?)
The others were equally taken aback by Riya's boldness, as she was known for her reserved and soft-spoken nature. Rajat, glancing at Sachin from the corner of his eye, could sense the tinge of jealousy on his face.
Arjun's smile widened ever so slightly as he locked eyes with Riya. Then, he shifted his focus to address the entire CID team, which included Riya and Tarika. Dr. Salunke stood beside Pradyuman, his expression turning serious as he spoke.
Arjun: "Hello team! Mera naam Arjun hai. Ab se main aap sab ke second-in-command ke tarah kam karunga." (Hello team! My name is Arjun. From now on, I'll be working as your second-in-command.)
A brief pause filled the room, creating an awkward silence that was broken by Dr. Salunke.
Dr. Salunke: "Welcome to CID, Arjun. Main Dr. Salunke hoon, forensic department ka head." (I am Dr. Salunke, the head of the forensic department.)
One by one, everyone introduced themselves, and Arjun simply nodded in acknowledgment. Riya, being the last to speak, greeted him with a warm smile.
Riya: "Hello, sir! Main Riya hoon, Research Specialist." (Hello, sir! I am Riya, the Research Specialist.)
Arjun's barely noticeable smile did not escape the notice of Pradyuman, Daya, Abhijeet, and Salunke, who exchanged knowing glances. Meanwhile, the others perceived it as Arjun having an attitude, particularly Sachin.
Just then, a call came in, reporting the discovery of a dead body on a nearby road. The team decided that Purvi, Kevin, Freddy, Arjun, Pradyuman, Tharika, Abhijeet, and Riya would go to the crime scene while the rest would remain at the office in case another case emerged.
The case involved a man who had been shot dead, a bullet piercing through his head. Arjun and Kevin took the driver's seats in their respective cars. Abhijeet and Pradyuman decided to accompany Arjun to observe his approach, assuming Riya would ride with Purvi as usual.
However, to their surprise, Riya took a seat in the passenger side of Arjun's car. Abhijeet and Pradyuman exchanged a knowing look before settling in the backseat. Freddy, who should have joined them, opted to ride with Kevin, leaving Kevin, Purvi, and Sachin bewildered. Freddy simply shrugged in response to their questioning looks and began explaining what had transpired. While Purvi and Kevin were amused and shocked, Sachin couldn't comprehend why Riya seemed so comfortable around this new guy. The journey to the crime scene was filled with silence as each person contemplated their own thoughts.
Meanwhile, inside Arjun's car, Arjun broke the silence by asking Riya about the crime scene. Abhijeet and Pradyuman were puzzled by his question, unsure of his intentions.
Arjun: "Riya, batao, crime scene ke bare mein kya hai?" (Riya, tell me about the crime scene.)
Before they could voice their thoughts, Riya surprised them yet again by responding, "Sir, yeh ek viraan sadak hai. Sirf kuch mazdooron dwara istemal hoti hai. 5 kilometer ke radius mein kuch godown hai aur kuch bhi nahi." (Sir, this is a deserted road that is only used by a few laborers. There are some warehouses within a 5-kilometer radius, and nothing else.) Arjun simply acknowledged her with a thoughtful "Hmm."
Abhijeet broke the silence, feeling the need to fill the void, "Kya tum dono ek doosre ko pehle se jaante ho?" (Do you both know each other from before?)
Riya replied, "Haan, sir. Main unhe pehle se jaanti hoon. Meri pehli posting CID se pahle unke saath hi thi." (Yes, sir. I know him from before. My first posting was with him even before I joined CID.)
Pradyuman chimed in, "Acha hai, yeh toh acchi baat hai." (That's good to hear.)
Just then, they arrived at the crime scene. Kevin's car pulled up shortly after. Each member of the team immediately began their assigned tasks. Arjun carefully observed the body while Riya and Freddy started interrogating the individuals who had called in to report the incident. Sachin, accompanied by Abhijeet, scoured the surrounding area for any potential evidence. Kevin assisted the paramedics in moving the body, with Purvi aiding Tharika in collecting samples and documenting the scene through photographs. Pradyuman attentively observed Arjun's actions.
After completing their work at the crime scene, they returned to the office. Everyone, except for Dr. Salunke, Dr. Tharika, and surprisingly, Riya, gathered to discuss the case. As the team began deliberating, Arjun leaned against the wall with his arms folded. None of them knew whether they should approach him or not.
Noticing Riya's absence, Sachin couldn't help but inquire, directing his question to Abhijeet and Daya, though everyone in the room heard, "Sir, kya aap jaante hain Riya kahan gayi hai?" (Sir, do you know where Riya went?)
They both responded with a negative answer, leaving everyone perplexed as to where she had disappeared to. Daya turned to Pradyuman and asked, "Kya aapne use kisi kaam ke liye bheja hai? Maine toh wahi soch raha tha." (Did you send her for some work? That's what I was thinking.)
Arjun, who had been contemplating the same question, started to grow concerned about Riya's whereabouts.
