'Want a girl with clean past means..': Param Singh SURPRISED after being labelled misogynist for liking a post

Television actor Param Singh has unexpectedly found himself facing backlash on social media after netizens noticed that he had liked a post on Instagram with a controversial quote. The quote suggested that "dating a woman with no guy friends" is the “biggest flex in today’s generation.” The post, which quickly went viral on Reddit, drew sharp criticism, with many labeling the Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin actor a “misogynist.”

Though Param has remained silent on his social media handles, he later spoke exclusively to India Forums to share his side of the story. In a chat with us, the actor didn’t hold back.

“Who are these people? Kaun hai ye log?”, he began, clearly surprised at the sudden uproar. “I am surprised because I have been getting so many calls all of a sudden. Well, the quote spoke about being with a girl who has had a 'clean past,' toh main uspe like kar diya, ismein problem kya hai? Clean past ka matlab ye nahi ke virgin ladki hai aisa ya usse matlab hai. It means achhe ghar ki hai, achhi ladki hai, uske boyfriends bhi hoge toh koi problem nahi hai. She is sober, drugs nahi karti. Ya koi gaaliyan nahi deti, matlab respectful hai. Iska matlab hai clean past. Ab usme mujhe 'misogynist' bana diya matlab maine toh page nahi chalaya? Param went on to clarify that the backlash was surprising, especially given his personal life. “Main aise tension main aagaya because I have so many female friends and I am friends with my exes also, all of them,” he said. “Agar main itna bada misogynist hota toh mere se toh matlab ladkiyan baat hi na kare. Meri ex-girlfriends toh kabhi mera phone hi na uthaye, woh toh meri bestfriends bani hui hai saari.”

Interestingly, when India Forums read the full quote from the post back to him, Param said he hadn’t even read the part that triggered the controversy. “Maine woh line padhi hi nahi na,” he explained. “Maine woh line padhi ‘who respects your family,’ maine woh line padhi ‘who has eyes on you,’ matlab who's life is around you. Maine wahi line nahi padhi sirf that ‘who doesn't have guy friends.’ My girlfriends have had so many guy friends, unke toh best friends hi ladke thhe aur woh log phir mere best friend bann gaye. I do not know what is up with people? Itni problems chal rahi hai duniya mein and people are having problems with this?”

Param also revealed that, following the backlash, he took a step back and unfollowed the page that originally posted the quote.

“Maine toh unko unfollow kar diya because I thought ke aisa kya hi bichare woh karte hai and I thought that my admirers are offended,” he said. “However, if my real followers have felt bad, I apologise yaar. Honestly, I am someone who has never believed in these divides of aurat, aadmi, religion, race. I do not believe in all this. For me, everybody is one.”

Reiterating his stance, Param clarified once again that he wasn’t endorsing any form of regressive thinking.

“We also want a girl who is sweet, who has a clean past matlab a respectful person. It’s not just about sex. Everything is not about having boyfriends or relationships,” he said. “As a whole when you read that post na it is very admirable for a guy jab ek ladki ke liye aap hi ho. Jab meri hi itni female friends hai toh mujhe kya problem hogi ke meri girlfriend ke kitne guy friends hai? Meri bestfriends sari ladkiyan hai.”

Despite the controversy, Param maintains that the reaction was blown out of proportion and that he had no ill intent behind liking the post. For now, the actor has moved on from the incident and says he’s focused on his upcoming projects.
