Actor Vijay Sethupathi has finally addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his son Surya Vijay Sethupathi’s viral video. At the premiere event of Phoenix, Surya’s debut film, the actor responded to questions about reports alleging he had influenced the removal of certain online videos involving his son.
Speaking publicly at the event, Vijay expressed his gratitude to the film’s team and thanked the audience for their support. However, when reporters raised the issue of the alleged pressure on individuals to take down videos related to Surya, Vijay did not shy away. “If something like that happened, it might have been done unknowingly or by someone else. I sincerely apologise if anyone was hurt or misunderstood the intention,” he said, as reported by India Glitz.
This statement comes after speculation that members close to the actor may have acted on his behalf to have certain videos removed from circulation. Though Vijay did not directly confirm or deny the reports, his brief apology hinted at an awareness of the situation and a desire to clear the air respectfully.
A video from the Phoenix screening also showed Vijay warmly congratulating his son Surya with a hug and handshake, and appreciating director Anl Arasu. The film marks the acting debut of Surya, who portrays a young wrestler battling against oppressive power structures. The movie, directed by action choreographer-turned-director Anl Arasu, also features Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sampath Raj, Devadarshini, J Vignesh, and Abhinakshathra.
Phoenix released on July 4, clashing with Siddharth’s 3BHK. The film is produced by Rajalakshmy Anl Arasu under the AK Braveman Picturess banner.
As for Vijay Sethupathi, he was last seen in Ace and is set to appear next in Thalaivan Thalaivii, a comedy directed by Pandiraj, slated to hit theatres on July 25. He also stars in Mysskin’s upcoming film Train, which is currently in post-production.
Vijay’s measured response to the controversy suggests a careful balancing act between his public image and personal life, especially as his son takes his first steps in the film industry.
