Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela and Bengali actress-turned-politician Mimi Chakraborty have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the ongoing probe into an illegal betting app. Both are scheduled to appear at the ED headquarters in Delhi this week.
According to reports, Mimi Chakraborty has been asked to appear on September 15, while Urvashi Rautela has been called on September 16. A source confirmed to India Today that both names have surfaced in the 1xBet investigation and they are required to record their statements. Neither actor has issued any response so far.
This is not the first time public figures have come under scrutiny in the case. Former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan were also questioned by the agency last month. Raina appeared at the Delhi office on August 13, and Dhawan on September 4.
The probe has widened in recent weeks with several actors and influencers being called in for questioning. Actress Lakshmi Manchu was among those summoned earlier, after her name surfaced in relation to promotional activities tied to the app. In her remarks after the questioning, Lakshmi said, “You know, it’s an ED sit. I find it very humorous that our government will come to the tail end of the person. I’m like, bro, look at who started it.” She also expressed disappointment over the way media reports framed her appearance, saying that much of what was published did not reflect what actually happened.
Others questioned in the case include actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati. Prakash Raj clarified that he had promoted a gaming app back in 2016 but accepted no payment and eventually distanced himself from it on moral grounds. Vijay Deverakonda stated that he endorsed only a legal platform and had declined payment citing ethical concerns. Rana Daggubati too was reportedly asked about his association with a betting brand.
As per the ED, nearly 29 people, including celebrities and digital influencers, are under the scanner for endorsing or promoting illegal betting platforms. The investigation is focused on financial trails, payments, and promotional links to determine the scale of the operation.
