We continue to live in times where comedy is still a paramount ingredient to lead a happy life. So, when it comes to feature presentations, how can it be ignored, right? Over the years, we have come across some of the finest TV shows and many of them have managed to leave an impact as much as they go on to be iconic. So, without further ado, here are Top 15 sitcoms of all time (in no particular order) according to me-
Shrimaan Shrimati
The idea of two married men, who are neighbors getting attracted to each other's wives could easily have gone haywire but that did not happen owing to clean humor and classic performances from the likes of Late. Jatin Kanakia, Late. Reema Lagoo, Archana Puran Singh, and Rakesh Bedi.
The Big Bang Theory
It wouldn't be difficult to forget how we have come across several times of nerds being made fun of all the time when we were in school, right? However, little did we know that science boy nerds can be so hilarious and even more so when you put a beautiful girl, and two more girl nerds in the mix.
You may continue to know Ekta Kapoor for the gargantuan success of her saas-bahu sagas but you shouldn't forget that her visionary eye as a creator was proven with the fact that her debut show was about a dysfunctional family about 5 poles-apart daughters and the shenanigans they practice every day to the chagrin of their father in Hum Paanch.
Modern Family
Talk about dysfunctional families and this one should be at the epitome of that list. An elderly man with his way-younger wife, his married daughter along with three kids and her husband, and his son who is gay along with his husband and their adopted daughter - all thrown together to create a laugh riot and a Modern Family. If you are confused reading this, believe me, the confusion only elevates when you watch the show.
There weren't too many long-running sitcoms on Indian TV to be proud of except Office Office but that too wasn't a daily soap per se. That barrier was broken completely when a Haryanvi braveheart female cop and her hilariously crazy sidekick male constables came on our TV screens with F.I.R.
Parks & Recreation
Usually eclipsed by The Office and the talk that goes around it, Parks & Recreation is usually forgotten as to how brilliant a sitcom it was. Set in the Parks & Recreation Department in the government, the show has some of the finest actors doing what they do best.
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi
Before several attempts were made in respect to create magic with a simplistic story of a married couple and a good-for-nothing brother-in-law, it was Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi that managed to create the best laughs with stalwart actors.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Cops are funny? You would have thought otherwise but all that should be entirely eradicated with the arrival of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Not only will you come across some of the best writing and jokes you would have come across but also get addicted to the fact that some cops indeed have an amazing sense of humor and a lot of fun too. Nine-Nine!
I am not going to say much about this one except, 'Praful, tu toh gadha hai gadha!'
Seinfeld
Considered by many as the best sitcom ever (not according to me), it is ironically funny that this show actually was about 'nothing.' Just a stand-up comedian wrestling with life and the trivial questions with three eccentric friends, Seinfeld created history.
Slapstick humor may not be accepted too much these days but boy it was funny when Dekh Bhai Dekh showcased it. What made it funnier? All the madness happened amongst family members.
The Office
Yes. A situation involving a weird, offensive, delusional boss and even crazier employees set in a paper company turned out to be one of the funniest sitcoms of all time. Seldom does it happen that an adaptation is better than the original but that did with The Office (U.S).
Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai
Breaking stereotypes in all possible ways, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai changed the way comedy and Indian TV shows were perceived. Crisp, sophisticated and impeccably intelligent, Maya Sarabhai and her crazy family never ceased to make you laugh.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
The overall quality may have been deteriorated bizarrely now but no one can deny that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a golden chapter in Indian sitcom history. Having recently completed 11 years and still running stronger than ever, the show that has already become iconic will only reach further heights in the future.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S
Critics may have a different opinion but the fans speak for themselves. Having passed the test of time in the best possible way and even 25 years later, it continues to grab jaw-dropping viewership on its reruns. 6 Friends and their daily shenanigans went on to be arguably the best sitcom of all time, where even generations later, everyone loves it and we love it too.
Agree with our list? Did we miss out any? And which one has been your favorite? Leave in your comments below...
