Throwback: Sanjay Dutt, Tina Ambani dated during the making of Rocky; actor said she took place of Nargis

 The Ambani family has been trending because of the wedding and their presence at the Paris Olympics 2024. On July 31, Sanjay Dutt celebrated his birthday. Both these occasions have brought back the focus on Sanjay Dutt’s affair with the younger bahu of the Ambani clan, Tina Ambani. As we know, Tina Ambani nee Munim was one of the most gorgeous actresses of the 1980s. She had made her debut in the Dev Anand movie Des Pardes as a teen. In 1981, Sanjay Dutt made his debut with Rocky and she was cast as his heroine. The two fell for one another during the shoot of the film. They were in a passionate relationship for two years. 

In an old interview to Stardust, a young Sanjay Dutt had said that he is an emotionally weak man who always needs a strong influence on him. He said that Tina Munim had taken the place of his late mother, Nargis. She had filled that void in his life. But he said that he does not let her dictate terms when it comes to his career. He did films with her rival Poonam Dhillon. He also spoke about wanting to work with Ranjeeta, another top actress of that decade. 

Late Rishi Kapoor wrote in his autobiography Khullam Khulla that Sanjay Dutt and Gulshan Grover planned to physically confront him when rumours of him wooing Tina Munim began to do the rounds. It seems they had gone to his place but Neetu Kapoor convinced them that this was just bullshit. She stopped a bad fight. Sanjay Dutt said that he would get insane whenever he would read about Tina Ambani nee Munim being linked upto someone but would control himself. He said he trusted her. Sanjay said he hoped she would be as understanding of him as he was of her. 

It seems the relationship ended because of his drug addiction. Tina Munim had a long-time affair with Rajesh Khanna but married Anil Ambani in 1991. It seems Anil Ambani and Tina Munim had met at a wedding but she was not interested in him. Later, when she met him through her nephew, she found him quite appealing. The Ambani family did not agree to the match for a long time as they were not keen on an actress bahu. But their son’s love finally won them over.
