After a stellar performance in A Shop For Killers in 2024, Lee Dong-wook is back with The Divorce Insurance. The series is coming on Prime Video, with fresh episodes airing on Monday and Tuesdays. It is a comedy series where Lee Dong-wook plays a go-getter marketing professional who has to make a big business out of selling ‘Divorce Insurance’. Like every Korean office drama, we are introduced to a host of characters who enliven the proceedings.

The Plot

The Divorce Insurance is about a company that specialises in selling financial insurance plans to cope up with divorces. Noh Ji-Goon (Lee Dong-wook), Ahn Jeong-Man (Lee Kwang-soo) and Lee Joo-bin (Kang Han-deul) are the main players of a Special Task Force that has to build up the insurance business.

What’s hot

The Divorce Insurance seems to be heavier on comedy than romance. The Lee Dong-wook is hilarious as Noh Ji-Goon, a marketing salesman who has been divorced thrice. He has always excelled in bromance whether it is in Goblin or Bad And Crazy. The scenes between Kwang-soo and Dong-wook are a hoot. Actress Lee Joo-bin’s comic timing is also good. Fans of Lovely Runner will be happy to see Kim Won-Hae as Dong-wook’s superior. The first episode progressed at a good pace, and there was slapstick comedy reminiscent of the old Korean dramas.

What’s not

In the Prime Video version with subtitles, there is a reference of India and curry, which feels a little stereo-typed. Also, there are some comic graphics that feel a bit tacky.

Verdict

The Divorce Insurance seems to be an office comedy. It is tough to give it a genre from the first episode. With Lee Dong-wook and co delivering the comic punches effortlessly, this series seems to be a perfect stress-buster. Also, the topic is an extremely relevant one in today's world where alimony is such a huge matter of debate.
