Arjun & Kartk

Producer duo Arjun and Kartk are thrilled about the buzz their forthcoming passion project, Rafuchakkar has created. The con-man-centered drama soon to be aired on JioCinema, features Maniesh Paul as Prince, a silver-tongued con-man and master of disguise who always gets what he wants.

In an exclusive conversation with us, we had the producers talk about the reason to produce a show like Rafuchakkar, the challenges they face and the clutter that web possesses lately.

What was it about Rafuchakkar that led you to take it on as a project you would like to produce?

We wanted to tell a story which gives an insight into the  intriguing life of a conman. Many acclaimed web series are about  characters drawn from regular life and their interplay or we have crime procedurals that are really dark. A story about a conman gives you the opportunity to not just etch interesting characters but also explore the psyche of a person who may be deviant in certain ways but not necessarily dangerous. Also such a story allows you to explore exactly why he is doing what he does. His thoughts, actions and schemes make the story very engrossing. It was with these ideas that we along with our writers developed this show. It is very different from all the conmen stories that you may have seen till date as it is in a very real, relatable space. We feel 'Rafuchakkar' will attract not just Zen Z but everyone who loves a suspenseful story that is also engaging on a human level.

While the web world is blooming, there is a constant case of clutter with shows and films coming on OTT literally every other day. As producers, how do you work to make your project standout?

Well, as we said, the premise and concept of a show has to be unique. As producers and a creative duo committed to doing clutter-breaking work, we take our time with stories, characterisation, casting, and production details. We also focus a lot on finding the most authentic locations. We do our best to ensure that what we are creating is completely different from other shows and we invest a lot of time in the delineation of each and every character to ensure that it is unique, interesting and  is part of a captivating narrative.

What is the biggest challenge as creators when you are shooting for a project you have invested in?

The biggest challenge for a producer is to work within a timeline and a budget. As creators and producers, we want our projects to be outstanding but also have the responsibility to finish the shoot in the scheduled number of days and within a specified budget. At any given point of time, there are over 300 people on the set that we must manage and take care of. It's also very challenging to get everybody to see the overarching vision of the show and get them to work towards the same.

Apart from Rafuchakkar and Taali, what else can we expect from you in terms of other projects?

We are working on developing multiple projects which will cater to different types of audiences. Some are in the biopic space and some of them are fictional.

Rafuchakkar is all set to stream airing 15th June onwards on JioCinema.
