In a recent exclusive interview with India Forums, actors Gaurav Arora and Satyadeep Mishra had an in-depth talk on various subjects while promoting their show Tanaav Season 2. While they gave insights about their character in the show and their roles, camaraderie with other members, and its importance, they also talked about the films that they would enjoy as audience if they got re-released in cinemas.

Satyadeep sir, when working on long-format shows, actors often become deeply invested in their characters. With two seasons of the show now, how emotionally attached are you to your characters, and does this attachment affect you personally?

Satyadeep: “I don’t think I go home with my character in my head. It’s a job at the end of the day; I enjoy it, and when they say pack up, I switch off. I don’t know, maybe I would have been a different actor had I gone home with my character in my head, but no. I come back the next day and switch on and switch off, and I’m happy that that’s the sort of relationship I have with the work.”

Gaurav, people have loved you as Ahaan from 'Broken But Beautiful' and were surprised by your role in the trailer of the new show. What are your thoughts on transitioning into this grey-shaded character, and how did you prepare for it?

Gaurav: “I actually, up till now, was wondering that I’m really lucky to have gotten this, but now you put a doubt in my head, honestly. I’m really excited for this; this is a fantastic character. I mean, I’m really glad that I’m playing this. How did I get into the skin of the character? We had a couple of workshops, like we had these action boot camps where we had an international coach from South Africa, Dan, who trained us for a week here. Apart from that, it’s a little sensitive subject; this character can be a little sensitive. So, I did watch a lot of documentaries, read a few articles, and I think I was in safe hands, like my directors were very good, and yeah, so it wasn’t really like the pressure wasn’t really on me.”

Sudhir sir mentioned that you all bonded well off-screen, even staying in touch after the shoot. Do you feel that this off-screen camaraderie makes it easier to perform well on screen?

Satyadeep: “I think it does. I think it also helps that this is a second season. So, it’s just that amount of time spent with each other off-set actually, and that’s what sort of creates the sort of relationships that you have and the comfort that you have, and it sort of reflects on screen as well. A lot of this show is shot outside of Mumbai, so you’re all staying in the same hotel, eating all your meals together. It’s just a completely different vibe, and I think that lends to the sort of on-screen camaraderie.”

Gaurav: “Same as what he just said. When you’re away from your family for two months, you’re all staying together, traveling together, having your meals together, so, I mean, you become a family there. The bond becomes much stronger.”

Is there a specific film you would want to revisit in theaters?

Gaurav: “I would love to see 'Deewar' again. I mean, I love that movie, and I’ve never seen it in a theater, so if it comes out, I’m going for sure.”

Satyadeep: “I think I’ll be very selfish and say that I’d love for 'Bombay Velvet' to come out again because five people saw it.”

Tanaav Season 2 produced by Applause entertainment is all set to stream on Sony Liv from 6th September onwards.
