Tabu and Vishal Bhardwaj reunite for Netflix thriller 'Khufiya'; release date revealed

In the realm of Hindi cinema, certain collaborations ignite sparks that transcend the screen. One such dynamic duo is the formidable actress Tabu and the maestro of storytelling, Vishal Bhardwaj. Their latest venture, a gripping spy thriller titled 'Khufiya,' is set to unravel its secrets on Netflix India.

Netflix India, with its penchant for suspense, cleverly teased the release date of 'Khufiya' through an Instagram promo that left audiences eager for more. The promo features Tabu in her role as a spy, meticulously examining CCTV footage with a colleague. In this tantalizing glimpse, a mysterious character sends a covert message via fax machine. As the camera zooms in, the date of revelation, October 5, emerges on the fax paper.

Netflix India accompanied the promo with a caption that alluded to the mystique of the film: "Kuch raaz, raaz hi rahe to behtar hai (Some secrets are better kept as secrets). But not this one (eyes emoji)."

Tabu and Vishal Bhardwaj's cinematic synergy traces back two decades to the director's 2003 gangster drama, 'Maqbool,' where she shared the screen with the iconic Irrfan Khan. Their collaboration continued with the 2014 crime drama 'Haider,' an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Hamlet,' in which Tabu portrayed the complex character of Haider's mother, opposite Shahid Kapoor. The duo's brilliance also extended to Meghna Gulzar's 2015 whodunit, co-written by Vishal.

This year, Tabu was part of yet another Bhardwaj creation, 'Kuttey,' marking the directorial debut of Vishal's son, Aasman Bhardwaj. Their partnership has consistently delivered cinematic gems that captivate audiences and critics alike.

'Khufiya,' a neo-noir spy thriller, draws inspiration from Amar Bhushan's espionage novel 'Escape to Nowhere.' In addition to Tabu, the ensemble cast includes Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ashish Vidyarthi.
