Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam return for Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2, heist shifts from sky to sea

Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam are set to come together again for the sequel to Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. This time, the heist thriller will reportedly be staged aboard a cruise, with plans for a theatrical release.

The 2023 crime drama, backed by Dinesh Vijan, gained significant traction on streaming platforms. Encouraged by its reception, the makers have locked a follow-up. According to a report in Pinkvilla, both Kaushal and Gautam will reprise their roles, while the casting for other parts is still underway.

A source told the portal, “The script of Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2 is locked, and the film is expected to go on floors by the end of 2025. Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam will return, and the team is looking to bring in credible names for the supporting cast.”

The first film centred on a mid-air robbery, but the sequel promises even higher stakes. “This time, the entire story unfolds on a cruise in the middle of the ocean. It will mix suspense with humour, much like the original,” the source added.

To match the ambitious setting, the production will reportedly use a real cruise ship for a marathon schedule in international waters. Unlike the debut instalment, which premiered directly on Netflix, the sequel is being positioned for theatres. “A final call is pending, but the intention is theatrical,” the source revealed.

Sunny Kaushal’s projects

Sunny Kaushal, who made his debut with Sunshine Music Tours and Travels in 2016, found wider recognition with Gold (2018). His role as a young hockey player earned him acclaim, followed by performances in Bhangra Paa Le (2020) and the more recent Dhoom Dhaam.

The actor will soon be seen with Emraan Hashmi in a courtroom drama inspired by the Shah Bano case of 1985. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film marks the second chapter in his courtroom trilogy and is slated for release later this year.

As for Yami Gautam, she continues to balance commercial entertainers and socially driven dramas, though her upcoming slate remains under wraps for now.

If Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2 does head to cinemas, it will mark a notable shift for the franchise from digital-first success to a wider theatrical experiment.
