The promotion of the upcoming crime-drama series Mistry has been clouded by controversy after lead actor Ram Kapoor faced serious backlash for making inappropriate remarks during a recent media interaction. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the entertainment industry around the need for professionalism and respect during public engagements.

During a promotional event for Mistry, Kapoor allegedly made a series of crude and offensive comments. These reportedly included sexually suggestive remarks about female staff, lewd references to photo shoot poses, and distasteful analogies when describing the press event. The comments quickly drew criticism online and from industry colleagues. In response, the makers of Mistry decided to remove Kapoor from all remaining promotional activities. His co-star, Mona Singh, has since been handling media appearances alone.

Reacting strongly to the situation, actor Sudhanshu Pandey spoke to FilmiBeat, where he openly criticised Kapoor’s behaviour. He described the remarks as a reflection of “mansik asthirta,” or mental instability, and said such actions harm not only the individual’s reputation but also the credibility of the television industry as a whole. “Firstly, Ram is damaging his own image by making such comments. Secondly, one must be mentally unstable to say such things, particularly when referring to a woman who is in close proximity,” Pandey said. “If Ram has indeed said something like this, then I sincerely apologise on behalf of our entire industry.”

Kapoor, for his part, acknowledged the controversy in a follow-up statement. He admitted to having said things that were out of line and offered apologies to anyone affected. While maintaining that he meant no harm and was speaking in a light-hearted tone, he also accepted that his conduct was inappropriate and took responsibility for it.

Mistry, which premieres on June 27 on JioCinema, is the Indian adaptation of the detective series Monk. While anticipation for the series remains high, Kapoor’s remarks have cast a shadow over its rollout. The incident has reignited conversations about workplace conduct and the standards to which public figures should be held.
