In August, Abhishek Banerjee hit the jackpot with the release of his films Stree 2 and Vedaa. He chatted with PTI and shared insights on what sets Stree apart as a project, and it's quite fascinating. Abhishek mentioned that director Amar Kaushik becomes a taskmaster, while the actors tease each other to bring out the best output.
“Amar bhai (brother) is a bully from Kanpur,” said Abhishek adding that even if he pretends to be a distinguished gentleman, he arrives with a Kanpuriya vibe. Banerjee added, “He can insult you very badly about your humor, and acting. He could be like 'Abey, kya kar raha hai ye? Ye kahan se seekh ke aaya hai (What are you doing? Where did you learn this from'?) So, you're always on your toes.”
Abhishek Banerjee, aged 39, also mentioned that the actors on set share a strong camaraderie and freely engage in playful banter. "What works for us is that we can be very ruthless towards each other and we can really make fun of each other," Abhishek expressed, highlighting the environment on the Stree sets where actors can humorously critique each other's improvisations without holding back.
He further explained that this level of openness and honesty is rare on other film sets as people often get offended, but in this environment, it serves as motivation to improve. "When you are so naked in front of your co-actors, that's when the best lines come," Abhishek remarked, emphasizing the importance of balancing freedom with self-imposed professionalism.
Our on-screen Jana also mentioned that the seasoned artist Pankaj Tripathi excels effortlessly in his craft, turning even the simplest things into humor. "Sometimes I'm just laughing by looking at the things he does," Banerjee shared, highlighting Tripathi's exceptional talent.
That being said, amidst the debates on who deserves credit for the success of Stree 2, Abhishek emphasizes that all actors involved in this project are 'very secure'. "And even if we are insecure, we say everything out loud. Like, I would do that a lot on song shoots and say 'Mujhe center frame chahiye' (I want to be centre frame) just to irritate my co-actors,” Banerjee concluded.
