Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal Celebrate First Ganesh Chaturthi Post-Wedding

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, who tied the knot earlier this year, are enjoying their first Ganesh Chaturthi as a married couple. Despite the initial attention and criticism they received for their interfaith marriage, Sonakshi, a Hindu, didn’t convert to Islam. They had a civil marriage, preferring to keep things private and simple. After facing trolling online, the couple chose to turn off comments on their wedding posts, choosing peace over the negativity. Now, they seem focused on building a peaceful and harmonious life together.

On Sunday, the couple shared a special video on Instagram where they were seen performing the Ganesh aarti together. It was a significant moment, especially since it was their first Ganesh Chaturthi as a married couple. In the video, Sonakshi and Zaheer can be seen offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, and the post was accompanied by a meaningful caption, “Love grows in respect, when a couple honors each other’s beliefs in true harmony…Our first Ganpati after shaadi.”

Their wedding was not the grand event that people often expect from celebrities. Sonakshi had previously shared that they opted for a simpler and more private celebration instead of a traditional, multi-day Indian wedding. She mentioned that her brother Kussh’s big wedding in 2015 influenced her decision, as she felt she didn’t want a similarly huge event with thousands of guests.

In a recent chat with Galatta India, Sonakshi spoke about whether she felt any pressure to have a grand wedding. She said, “There was pressure, but we knew what kind of wedding we wanted. After seeing my brother’s wedding, with thousands of guests, I told my mother, ‘Meri shaadi waise nahi hogi’ (My wedding won’t be like that).” Kussh Sinha had a grand wedding in 2015 with Taruna Agarwal, which was a big event.
