Sohum Shah's 'Tumbbad' achieves a 'blockbuster' success on its re-release opening day

Sohum Shah's 'Tumbbad' made a grand comeback in theatres, achieving a fantastic box office collection of ?1.65 crore on its first day of re-release. This figure is almost three times more than what the film earned during its initial release six years ago, showing the continued interest and love from the audience.
The movie, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by Sohum Shah under his banner, Sohum Shah Films, originally hit theatres on October 12, 2018. Back then, it earned ?65 lakh on the first day, with its overall theatrical run collecting over ?12 crore.
Due to the high demand from fans, Sohum Shah decided to re-release 'Tumbbad' across cinemas nationwide last Friday. Fans flocked to the theatres, proving their unwavering support for the actor-producer's work.
Sohum Shah Films shared the happy news through Instagram, revealing that the film earned ?1.65 crore net on its re-release opening day, a remarkable achievement for the team.
As per the film's crew, the day one earnings of 'Tumbbad' surpass the re-release figures of iconic films like 'Sholay', 'Mughal-e-Azam', and 'Rockstar'. Sohum Shah expressed his gratitude, saying, "'Tumbbad' has been a special journey and a labour of love for us. The love it still receives reaffirms our belief at Sohum Shah Films that content is king." Set in a village in Maharashtra, 'Tumbbad' follows the story of Vinayak Rao and his obsession with finding a mythical treasure guarded by the sinister creature Hastar. The re-release success of the film has caught the attention of cinema exhibitors.
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR INOX Pictures Limited, mentioned that he is confident about the film's future. He said, "It’s a blockbuster in the re-release category. The producers did an excellent job with its timing, and we expect 'Tumbbad' to enjoy a long run at the box office."
