Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush

Colors’ is coming up with Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s magnum opus Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush with a new twist. Featuring Himanshu Soni and Shivya Pathania in titular roles, the show will chronicle the age old tale of Ramayana but through Ram and Sita’s children Luv and Kush’s perspectives. The show begins when Ram and Sita return to Ayodhya after 14 years of forest exile (vanvas) while Sita is an expectant mother. How she leaves Ayodhya and lives in the forest and raises her children and how eventually they realize who they are forms the template of storyline.

Ramayana has been made innumerable times on television, so how different will be Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush in terms of content?

So, Mahabharata was my first mythological show and it’s one of the biggest stories that this country has seen and then there was Ramayana. As a child, I’ve heard stories of Ramayana, I have watched the epic series and I always wanted to curate Ramayana myself. I feel that we need to be aware of our roots in order to be aware of our value system. I think in today’s times we need to tell stories like this to teach our children about our history, our country and the values attached with it.

So I wanted to make it, but with a different perspective and I thought why not make it from the perspective of Luv and Kush. The beauty of the show is that the story starts where Ramayana ended. The story starts when Ram and Sita return to Ayodhya. Somehow this thought really excited me and hence, Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush

How did you research and prepare for the story?

I’ve read Valmiki Ramayana and different books to not just get to know the story but to dig deeper to find out unknown facts and information about the story. So how I work is that I research for the content, I read it, understand it, interpret it and then write my version of the story.

Have you always been fascinated towards mythological stories?

No, actually it was nothing like that. When I was making Mahabharata, which was my biggest dream and took five years, I realized that I would be blessed to make content like this. There is so much more in these stories than just entertainment, you get to learn so much from it. So, it’s fascinating that I get to learn a lot, I get to imagine a world that existed, it is such a big challenge and I think I’m blessed to be able to create the world on screen.

Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush will premier on Colors' from 5th August.
