Shikha Singh on breaking the norm that new moms aren't offered meaty roles

Actor Shikha Singh has been an inspiration to many indeed where after getting married, she continued to work at her will and did that amazingly well till the last leg of her pregnancy as well.

Then after giving birth to her first child, the actor is now back at work as she plays a cop in Naagin 6 and she even shed over 20 kilos post pregnancy. First talking about the weight loss with ETimes TV, Singh said, “The goal was to get fitter not just for my baby, but for myself, too. I had to be persistent and consistent with my weight loss regimen.”

Sharing her thoughts on how makers tend to shy away from actresses who embrace motherhood because they don’t look the same and are busy with their babies, Singh says, “I had heard from many people that it is difficult for women to get back to their fitter selves after delivery and that makers don’t cast you in strong or interesting roles. I did not want to get slotted in ‘mommy’ roles. I strongly feel that a woman should be able to get back to her normal self after delivering a baby. The industry works in a set pattern and you can’t help but be under pressure to look good or else you are out of business.”

Talking about how she lost over 20 kilos in the last one year, the actress, who recently joined the team of Naagin 6, says, “I followed a quantified nutritious diet and improved my metabolism while I lost weight. I also worked out in the gym and played badminton for one or two hours every day. Sometimes, I used to go for a run, too. It is important to feel good and if you are fit, you tend to do be happy and in the process enjoy life much better.”

Singh continues to be best remembered for her long-running role of Alia in Kumkum Bhagya.
