Scandal, Betrayal, and Justice: Kajol makes a riveting OTT debut with 'The Trial' as trailer drops

On Monday, Kajol, the popular Bollywood actress, along with the makers of her upcoming web series "The Trial - Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha," unveiled the trailer for the show. The two-minute trailer provided audiences with a compelling glimpse into Kajol's character in this courtroom drama.

In "The Trial," Kajol portrays the role of Noyonika Sengupta, a housewife who is compelled to return to her profession as a lawyer after her husband, played by Jisshu Sengupta, an additional judge, is arrested for accepting sexual favors as bribes to manipulate verdicts. 

The trailer commences with Kajol's character coming to terms with her husband's arrest and the revelation of his infidelity, leading her to confront him with anger and a resounding slap. However, she swiftly assumes the role of the devoted wife, standing by his side as he is taken away by the police in a van amidst a media frenzy. 

Driven by a desire for justice for herself and her family, Noyonika Sengupta, who hadn't set foot in a courtroom for years, musters the strength to return to the legal battlefield. However, her decision to pursue justice doesn't come without challenges. She faces judgments from her fellow lawyers and the public as she strives to navigate the complexities of the legal system and fight for what she believes is right.

For the unversed, "The Trial" is a Disney+ Hotstar series directed by Suparn Verma. It is an Indian adaptation of the popular American series "The Good Wife," which originally starred Julianna Margulies in the lead role. The American series, which aired from 2009 to 2016, spanned seven seasons and captivated audiences with its compelling narrative centered around a woman who restarts her legal career after her politician husband is embroiled in a scandal.
