Malayalam actor and television personality Shwetha Menon, who has also worked in Bollywood, has been named in an obscenity case filed by Ernakulam Central Police. The case, which cites sections under the Prevention of Obscenity Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, stems from a complaint by activist Martin Menachery.

The complaint, first submitted to the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, alleged that Menon featured in films and advertisements containing explicit material. Following the court’s directive, police registered an FIR against her. Charges also include provisions under the Information Technology Act.

As per a report by Mathrubhumi, Menachery claims that the content from certain films and ads featuring Menon was circulated on adult sites and social media platforms to draw attention and allegedly earn commercial profits.

The films specifically mentioned in the complaint are Rathinirvedam, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha, and Kalimannu. Along with these, a condom advertisement featuring Menon has also been flagged. The FIR states that these visuals were not just bold in nature but allegedly misused on digital platforms, leading to concerns about exploitation and moral standards.

Menon, who began her acting career in the early '90s, rose to wider fame through her performances in Malayalam cinema. She also acted in several Hindi films including Asoka (2001) with Shah Rukh Khan, and Bandhan (1998) opposite Salman Khan. Other Bollywood credits include Maqbool, Run, Hungama, Sandwich, and Corporate.

More recently, she was seen in the 2024 Malayalam film Jangar and also appeared in the web series Nagendran’s Honeymoons. Apart from acting, she has hosted television shows, including the talk series Enkile Ennodu Para.

As of now, Menon has not responded publicly to the allegations or commented on the FIR. The case remains under investigation.
