RIP Priya Marathe: Subodh Bhave pens heartfelt note for Pavitra Rishta actress, Omkar Thatte offers tribute

Actress Priya Marathe passed away after battling cancer for a long time. She was just 38. It seems she died around 4.30 am at her home in Mira Road surrounded by her family members. Priya Marathe is best known as Varsha from Pavitra Rishta. The entire cast of the show became household names, and Priya did an excellent job as the rebellious Varsha, the younger sister of Archana (Ankita Lokhande). Priya Marathe’s husband Shantanu Moghe was by her side as she fought hard against the fatal disease. Not much is known about her type of cancer or treatment as she did not share the news.

Her co-star and cousin famous Marathi actor Subodh Bhave wrote a heartfelt note on Instagram. He said she was a fine actress and his co-star in many dramas and films. However, their first bond was that of a brother and sister. He said Priya Maratha was always dedicated to her craft and stood out with her performances. It seems she had been battling cancer since a few years. After making a full recovery, she had begun working once again. However, the cancer relapsed and her body became weak. Subodh Bhave wrote she fought hard till her body could not handle it any more.

Priya Marathe’s demise has plunged the Marathi and Hindi TV industry in grief. At 38, her life was cut short in the most cruel manner. The actress married Shantanu Moghe in 2012. He was a supportive husband throughout her battle with the dreaded disease. Of late, we heard how Hina Khan and Dipika Kakar fought for their lives after being detected with the disease. Priya Marathe will continue to live in the hearts of audiences with her tremendous body of work. We extend out condolences to her family, friends and fans in this hour of grief.
