Raveena Tandon opens up about battling pay disparity in 90s Bollywood

Raveena Tandon, an iconic figure in Bollywood with a career spanning over three decades, has left an indelible mark on the industry with her versatile performances. Despite her popularity, the issue of pay disparity has been a persistent concern.

In a recent interview with Jist News, Raveena candidly addressed the pay gap between male and female actors, reminiscing about the challenges she faced in the 90s. Reflecting on the disparity, she revealed how male stars earned significantly more than their female counterparts. 

She said, “In those days, the money was very, very less, especially the pay disparity between actors and actresses. The male stars got a lot; much, much more. What they would make in one film, I would make in, say 15 films. For women actors… me, personally… actually, I can't speak for everybody, I can't generalize this. I had to do 15-20 films to make as much money as my male counterparts,” Raveena said.

While acknowledging the positive changes in the industry, Raveena highlighted the evolution of gender dynamics and increased opportunities for women. She credited the collaborative efforts of film producers and corporate entities for fostering a more professional environment.

Despite the hurdles, Raveena remains grateful for her parents' unwavering support. On the professional front, her latest venture, "Patna Shukkla," backed by Arbaaz Khan, showcases her enduring talent and commitment to her craft.
