Rashmika Mandanna Reacts to Delay, Says ‘The Girlfriend’ Will Spark Unspoken Dialogues

Actor Rashmika Mandanna has finally addressed the growing online buzz around the delay of her upcoming film The Girlfriend. The romantic drama, which has been under production for a while, saw a wave of tweets recently with the hashtag #ReleaseTheGirlfriend trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Taking note of fans’ increasing impatience, director Rahul Ravindran posted on X, “Guys… there will be updates soon. Praamise. Please be a little patient.” Rashmika, who plays the lead in the film, also joined the conversation to reassure her followers.

She wrote, “Hi my lovelies. I know we’ve been making you wait and your trend really is something else.. but trust me @23_rahulr is really working on it to give you the best output and it’s one of the most special kind of films… it’s a film where we speak about things we generally don’t talk much about… it’s a pure characters driven film and that’s the beauty of it… we promise you we want to give you the best and it’ll be worth your while. But because of today.. for all the love you’ve shown us, we’ll just speed up the process and deliver it to you soonest!”

This isn't the first time Rashmika has addressed queries about The Girlfriend. During an AMA session earlier, a fan had asked her for updates. Her response then was: “@rahul_23 is planning only the best for you.. even I am waiting for updates.. when I have them I will share for sure.”

The Girlfriend is directed and written by Rahul Ravindran and features a cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Dheekshith Shetty, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini. The teaser, released in December 2024, begins with a voiceover by Vijay Deverakonda praising Rashmika’s character, followed by glimpses of her college days and a troubled relationship with the character played by Dheekshith Shetty.

Produced by Dheeraj Mogilineni, Vidya Koppineedi, GA2 Pictures, and Mass Movie Makers, the film's music is by Hesham Abdul Wahab. Krishnan Vasant handles cinematography while Chota K Prasad is in charge of editing.

Rashmika is also part of Kuberaa, scheduled for global release on June 20, 2025.
